Kevin Bacon Pays Gratitude to Fans After 'The Following' Cancellation
Kevin Bacon took to Twitter to express his gratitude to the fans after Fox cancelled "The Following."
The 56-year-old actor wrote: "Big love to all of our loyal fans. It's been an honor to work for you. Sweat, tears, and lots of Blood! Enjoy the final four #THEFOLLOWING."
The psychological thriller drama was axed off from the network's list of shows after three seasons, The Wrap reported. Bacon, who portrayed former FBI agent Ryan Hardy, also went on to thank the show's production team, including series creator Kevin Williamson and co-showrunner Marcos Siega.
"Thanks to our heroic crew. I miss you already. #RememberFortTotten #thefollowing," Bacon tweeted. "Thanks to @kevwilliamson for creating RH. Thanks to all the great writers and producers. And my champion @MSiega," he concluded.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, "The Following" generated a lot of buzz when it premiered in 2013, but gradually lost its viewership since the pilot episode, with the third season's low ratings sealing the fate of the show. The Wrap noted that the series had a remarkable 3.2 million rating in the key 18-49 demographic when it premiered. Season 3, however, dropped to a 1.6 million.
There are rumors that Warner Bros. Television will transfer "The Following" to Hulu, but the streaming service "is not expected to engage," The Hollywood Reporter wrote.
"The Following" featured Bacon's Hardy hunting a serial killer Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) and later on Theo Noble (Michael Ealy). The series suffered a change of hands in June 2014 when Jennifer Johnson replaced Williamson as day-to-day in charge of the show, The Wrap added. Three months later, Johnson left the project to Siega and writers Brett Mahoney and Alexi Hawley.
What's In Store for 'The Edge?'
The upcoming episode will highlight the issues that FBI agent Tom (Gbenga Akinnagbe) has to deal with, particularly his current girlfriend Max Hardy (Jessica Stroup). Hypable wrote that there's a chance that Tom would kill Mike Weston (Shawn Ashmore), the guy who Max hooked up with in the past.
Daisy (Ruth Kearney) and Mark (Sam Underwood) are also "getting awfully close to finding out who has been using their cameras to spy on Max Hardy at home," Hypable added.

As for those fan theories claiming that serial murderer Joe is still alive and his death via lethal injection was just a ruse, Purefoy himself confirmed that his character on the show indeed met his end.
"For the first time, 'The Following' actually did what they said," Purefoy told TV Line. "They didn't pull the rug out from underneath you and do something unexpected. They said, "He's dying - and he really is gonna die.' I think a lot of people thought they were lying. No, no; he died."
"The Following" airs Monday, 9:00 PM on Fox.
