Android L 5.0, 5.1 Lollipop Download & Release Date: Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S3, HTC One M8 & More Updates Out!
A number of previous flagship smartphones are now able to get a taste of Android 5.0 and 5.1 Lollipop updates, thanks to the availability of custom ROMs.
To start with, a build from the XDA Developers team has been created for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, AUTOOMOBILE noted. Requiring 1.1 GB, the firmware is reportedly based on the "N9505XXUGBNL8" software bundle, bringing Android 5.0 features.
According to AUTOOMOBILE, Odin v3.09 is needed for successful installation, with at least 80% of battery life. The build may be downloaded here.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 has received a new custom ROM from mobile software developer community Resurrection Remix, International Business Times reported.
Weighing 229 MB, the build is based on Android's latest v5.1 Lollipop, bringing new customization options such as Theme Chooser (including Resurrection Remix's exclusive Pitch Black theme), Gestures Anywhere Feature, App Circle Bar, Quick Slider shortcuts, all-new CM Audio FX app, performance tweaks and other UI-enhancing features.
To avoid getting unintended devices bricked, prospects are advised to use the firmware solely on the Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 3G model, run by the Exynos chipset. Download the custom ROM here.
Next on this list is the HTC One M8, having received Cyanogen's CM12.1 series custom ROM. HTC has already announced that its 2014 flagship will receive the official Android 5.1 update in August, IBT said in another article.
Nevertheless, prospects can now install the custom firmware as it's already available to download. As told by IBT, the build comes with new apps and customization options. The latter includes choices of sound alerts and LED color displays for email notifications, among others.

Rashed97 has developed an Android 5.0 custom ROM for the LG G2, Motoringcrunch wrote in a recent article. According to the outlet, the firmware is specifically tailored for LG G2 models D800, D801, D802, LS980 and VS980.
Flashing the ROM requires at least 50% of battery for the LG G2 models, Motoringcrunch said. For more information, head over here.
If flashing custom ROMs sound tedious, most users would be glad to hear that Android 5.0 OTA updates are set to arrive at several Asus ZenFone devices, the Venture Capital Post noted. Reportedly, these include the ZenFone 5 LTE (A500KL), the ZenFone 4 (A400CG/A450CG), ZenFone 5 (A500CG) and ZenFone 6 (A600CG). The handsets are expected to receive the Android 5.0 update this month.
The VC Post added that a new stock Android Lollipop (I9505XXUHOD7) upgrade for the Galaxy S4 International LTE model is also available. For successful installation, the unit should be an unlocked GT-I9505 model.

Flashing custom firmwares require successful completion of very technical procedures that are best exercised with caution.
