Warriors Point Guard Stephen Curry is NBA's 2014-15 MVP, Report Claims
Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry is on his way to becoming the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of this NBA season, according to several sources cited by various news outlets.
CSN Bay Area initially reported that their sources named Curry as the next MVP, and the official announcement may happen on Monday. The Warriors won Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals series over the Memphis Grizzlies 101-86, and Game 2 is scheduled on Tuesday, May 5.
If he will really be named the MVP of this season, CSN Bay Area noted that he will be the first Warrior in the franchise's 53-year history to achieve the individual recognition.
When he was asked about the MVP title on Sunday, Curry said that things are still uncertain as of the moment.
"It's hard to kind of separate yourself with other things that may or may not happen. I know what the situation is and I'm just trying to focus on the game. And if I get a call (Monday), I'll definitely be happy and there will be a lot of people that can be proud of that moment," he said in the CSN Bay Area report.
He will receive the award before the start of Game 2 at the Oracle Arena, The Associated Press noted, citing a source.
Curry, according to USA Today, averaged 23.8 points, 7.7 assists and two steals per game during his stay with the Warriors who also have the league's best record. The team also has a 1-0 advantage over the Grizzlies in the Western Conference Semifinals.
It has also been noted that the details of the vote are not yet known but Curry is said to be in close competition with Houston Rockets' James Harden.
'Most gifted shooter'
SB Nation said Curry has been known as the NBA's "most gifted shooter" for the past years.
"The league leader in three-pointers attempted and made over each of the past three seasons, Curry is willing to fire it up -- and make it -- from pretty much anywhere on the court," SB Nation added in its report.
The player was able to improve his ballhandling skills for the past seasons making him almost impossible to guard. He is able to dribble his way into a tight defense and "will make you pay with the jumper if you give him too much room," SB Nation wrote.
At 6'3", Curry's shooting statistics have been tagged impressive as he is able to take 8.1 three-pointers per game and hits 44 percent of them.
