After the hit-and-run incident which reportedly injured a pregnant woman in Albuquerque, New Mexico, UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones was briefly taken into police custody after an arrest warrant was issued against him. Jones was released a few hours after turning himself in and paying a $2,500 bail.

The UFC champion, according to MMA Fighting, was released before 10 p.m. from the Bernalillo County Metro Detention Center where he was booked for a felony charge of leaving an accident scene. His silver Buick SUV allegedly beat a red light, hitting the vehicle of a 25-year-old pregnant woman, identified as Vanessa Sonnenberg, who reportedly broke her arm due to the impact.

According to Fox Sports, Sonnenberg was transported to a nearby hospital where she was treated for a fractured wrist and arm.

In a police report of the incident, the woman recounted the pain she felt after her vehicle got hit. "I am pregnant and I fell like I am going to pass out. My arm is hurting all the way up," Sonnenberg was quoted in the police report as saying.

She had an ultrasound on Monday to check if the accident caused any negative impact on the baby she is carrying.

MMA Junkie noted that a man matching the UFC fighter's description alighted from the SUV involved in the accident "before returning, grabbing a handful of cash and fleeing again."

The report added that a cop stationed near the area of the accident found rental documents which linked Jones to the vehicle.

In explaining the incident, MMA Fighting said the Sonnenberg's injury upgraded Jones' charges from a potential misdemeanor to a felony which has a maximum penalty of three years jail term.

In a statement released by the UFC, it noted receiving information about the incident but added that they are still gathering important information on the matter before commenting further about it.

"We are aware that the Albuquerque Police Department is interested in speaking to Jon Jones regarding his possible involvement in a motor vehicle accident. We are in the process of gathering facts and will reserve further comment until more information is available," the UFC statement read.

Jones' main event title fight against Anthony Johnson at UFC 187 has not been called off, as per MMA Fighting.

The UFC champion just recently moved to Albuquerque from New York with his fiancee and three daughters. He also trained for years at the Jackson-Winkeljohn MMA in the same city.

MMA Fighting noted that Jones, who is considered "the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world," was also busted for DWI three years ago then tested positive for cocaine metabolites last December.
