Cardinals' Adam Wainwright to Miss The Rest of 2015 Season Following Achilles Injury

It will take the rest of the 2015 season for St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright to recover from an Achilles injury he suffered during Saturday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Wainwright, according to ESPN, stumbled out of the batter's bax during the game and was immediately placed on a 15-day disabled list for the injury he sustained. He will have an MRI on Monday.

Commenting on his injury, Wainwright seemed to be just relaxed with his situation and tried to hide his frustration when he faced members of the media. "There's nothing I can do about it, so might as well not be nervous about it or worried about it. Worry doesn't do anybody any good," he was quoted as saying.

Wearing a protective boot on his left ankle, the pitcher recounted the incident which caused his injury.

"It felt like I got hit by something. If you look at the replay, I kind of get out of the box and look back to think, gosh, the catcher's mask must have hit me or the bat must have hit me or something must have hit me. Crazy game, something crazy like that you can never think. What was that, top of the fifth inning? It's going to take a lot to get me out of the game," Wainwright explained.

For his part, Cardinals manager Mike Matheny told ESPN that the team will have a hard time with Wainwright not playing for them.

"I think the test is going to be, with Adam, and everyone in here can see the difference in our attitude. We treasure every win we have, but it was different in here last night. We're just going to hopefully let the guys go back out there and play. They had a little time to think about some of this and the response and the answer is, we knew that some tests were going to come. And this is a big one that we're getting early. Let's see what we're made of," Matheny added.

A Sports Illustrated report revealed the possibility that Wainwright may miss the remainder of the season because of the gravity of his injury.

This is certainly bad news for the Cardinals as the pitcher led the 2-0 lead of his team on Saturday prior to his injury.

Though it may be hard for the team to get through without Wainwright playing for them, Yahoo Sports noted that the Cardinals were able to survive without him before. In 2011, the pitcher missed the World Series championship when he underwent a Tommy John surgery and the Cardinals were able to fill the team with talented players such as Jake Westbrook, Kyle Lohse and Edwin Jackson to make up for the player they lost.

His absence, this time, could be a big blow for the team again but they certainly need to find a way to make things work in their remaining games for this season.
