Will Kevin Durant Watch the NBA Playoffs? ‘Hell No'
Oklahoma City Thunder (OKC) power forward and the Most Valuable Player (MVP) last season, Kevin Durant, must be really frustrated at how the current season played out for him and his team.
After all, he was not able to play in several games due to his injured foot and the Thunder were unable to secure a playoff spot in the Western Conference.
Durant is currently rehabilitating and USA Today estimated that it may take four to six months before he can go back to playing basketball again.
It's a bitter pill to swallow for a former MVP who is itching to play on the court and people would understand if he will not watch the NBA playoffs even at home.
In a tweet by OKC Thunder beat writer Anthony Slater, he mentioned asking Durant if he will watch the playoffs but the NBA star responded with a stern "hell no."
"I'm definitely pissed. I can't wait for the first game (next season)," Durant was quoted by Slater in another Twitter post.
Since his team will not be playing in the playoffs, Durant's opinion on this is acceptable. Bleacher Report noted that this is the first season since 2009 that the OKC was not included in the playoffs.
"That has to hit home for Durant, an MVP winner and all-around ferocious competitor," the same report added.
The problem of the team for this season all had to do with injuries with Serge Ibaka, Russell Westbrook and Durant absent from most of the games because they were all nursing injuries.
Bleacher Report said that with the combined skills of the these three injured players, the Thunder were 18-9 meaning that they could have won 54-55 victories during the season, guaranteeing them a spot in the playoffs.
But all that should just be a thing of the past since the playoffs will already start and the OKC will just have to stay healthier and do better next season.
Durant, on the other hand, should now be looking forward to what is next in his career. CBS Sports' Zach Harper said that his upcoming free agency is "a big deal."
"The only way for them (OKC) to make it a non-issue is to win. Give Durant a championship, and he's much more likely, if not a surefire lock, to stay. The thing is, after missing the playoffs this season, the Thunder have just one last shot to make his free agency irrelevant, putting even more pressure on them to make the most of 2015-16," Harper added.
This puts so much pressure on the OKC if they want to keep Durant on their team. The NBA player surely wants to be consistent in what he does and still improve along the way with the right team.
