Samsung Galaxy S5 Specs and Features Rumors: Metal Casing Shipments for Device Start in December
Following the negative backlash against the Galaxy S4's plastic casing, evidence is beginning to mount that the famed South Korean electronics manufacturer will finally utilize a metal casing in its next-generation Galaxy S5 smartphone.
The latest report supporting a metal casing for the Samsung Galaxy S5 comes out Japan, where industry monitor EMS One states that Taiwanese-based manufacturing company Catcher has been contracted to supply between 10 and 30 million metal casings for the Galaxy S5 in December. The remainder of Samsung's supply needs will then be filled by China's BYD and Taiwan's Ju Teng.
Recent Samsung Galaxy S5 rumors have created a stir of confusion, with reports going back and forth between a plastic and metal casing for the Galaxy S5. The most likely scenario is that Samsung will release the Galaxy S5 in more than one variant, a plastic normal edition and a premium metal version. Samsung tends to release multiple variants of its flagship smartphones, and given the amount of criticism the company received for the Galaxy S4's plastic casing, it would only make sense Samsung would like that avoid that. After all, Galaxy S4 sales took a huge dip, and the third Galaxy Note, which usually sports the same body as the Galaxy S, was tweaked to sport a more solid, high-end feel.
Rumored specs for the Samsung Galaxy S5 include a brand new 64-bit processor (once again, there will probably be Exynos and Qualcomm variants), 3GB RAM, a 4,000mAh battery, and a beefy 16-megapixel camera. Expect the latest version of Android at the time of release, probably Android 4.4 KitKat, to be running right out of the box.
Samsung is also said to be moving up the production cycle for the Galaxy S5, with mass production starting in January 2014 and a possible release sometime in March or April.
Bear in mind that Samsung has not confirmed anything regarding the Samsung Galaxy S5, so be sure to exercise a healthy dose of skepticism until the company makes its official announcement.
