'StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void' PC Release Date, Gameplay & Trailer: Beta Preview Details Here
The Beta preview of "StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void" became available late last month and players who have experienced the preview have so much to say about it.
Sean Sands, in a PC Gamer review, said that video game developer Blizzard seemed to be focusing more on individual engagement this time instead of "big picture management."
"Beta players are rewarded for active unit management-or 'micro' in the common esports vernacular-refocusing priority down to unit-against-unit combat rather than the tidal flows of map control," Sands added.
It was also discussed in the same report that the new units in the game were made to "completely flip the momentum in a game, where a moment distraction on either side can take a certain victory and cripple it."
Meanwhile, Darryn Bonthuys of Lazy Gamer is all praises for the game which he considered "plenty fun" to play.
He noted in the review that Archon Mode is a simple concept where players can play the multiplayer mode and share their base and resources with other players.
"Both players can control each other's buildings and units, while one player can be the accountant of the team and keep the resources flowing in while the other half of this side prepares for war. And that's freakin' awesome. It's not a complex mode at all, and for a guy such as myself who had to relearn the ropes, it took all the stress off of my shoulders," Bonthuys added. He also noted that this contributed to make the game quicker.
The Lazy Gamer review also made special mention of the new Protoss units which, according to Bonthuys, added Stalkers, Dark Templars and Adepts to his arsenal.
"OH MY! I really, really love the Adepts. They've got mad skills, and when combined with other Protoss units, they can turn the tide of battle while leaving your opposition completely befuddled. Plus, sending out a shade to scope the area makes for some quick and easy map exploration, before the Adept teleports to its current location and throws down a sneak attack or two," he noted.
A similar Gamespot article said that Blizzard expressed its plan for StarCraft to "live on as a universe."
"We hope to explore some other aspects of the universe, but the storyline that was setup in StarCraft I and continued in StarCraft II will resolve in Legacy of the Void. All of those main characters will reach a nice, satisfying conclusion," a Blizzard spokesperson was quoted by Gamespot as saying.
Though the release date of the upcoming installment has not yet been announced, the beta preview of it surely kicked off things on the right direction and players now have an idea on what they should expect with the game's overall features and offerings.
