‘NBA 2K14’ PS4 Xbox One Shutdown Ends Players' Career Modes! How to Access?
A recent scheduled shutdown of the "NBA 2K14's" online support reportedly affected the career modes of Playstation 4 and Xbox One players despite 2K Sports' assurance that they could still play the said game mode offline.
After 16 months in service, Polygon said that 2K Sports deactivated servers for all editions of the "NBA 2K14" last March 31.
A month prior to the scheduled shutdown, NBA 2K gamers reportedly expressed concern about the saving of career modes as Polygon noted that the PS4 and Xbox One edition had a different save procedure for the MyCareer and MyGM modes.
"The default file save required an online check-in. Players discovered this when server problems at launch kept them out of playing their careers, even offline by themselves. It was possible to create a new offline file save, but that required starting all over," Polygon explained.
These concerns were, however, addressed by a 2K Sports representative who told Polygon that the files woulld be converted for these to be used offline.
"Online files will not disappear, but rather they will turn to offline saves and earn skill points as opposed to VC," the 2K Sports representative said in the Polygon article.
VG247, however, pointed out that this is different from what 2K support has been telling users in their e-mail responses, noting that the files are also being "retired."
"This means that if you had created a MyCareer or a MyGM online save file that was once connected to our servers it too sadly has retired and is no longer available for use and it would be necessary to re-create these files as offline saves," 2K Support was quoted by VG247 as saying.
2K Support added that this is surely an inconvenience to some of the players but it said this is a change that should be accepted.
"There always is a special bond that occurs between a player and their MyCareer save but all good things must come to an end and rest assured your MyCareer or MyGM went out while on top," it added.
Players tend to question if there is still something left with the "NBA 2K14." Polygon answered that the career modes can still be accessed but it would require players to start from scratch.
"Basically, you can still play quick game and off-line modes," the support email added.
It also thanked its players for patronizing the game saying "We hope you enjoyed your amazing experience with 'NBA 2K14's' online services and you can look forward to the continue experience [sic] they provide in 'NBA 2K15!'"
2K Sports has not yet reacted on the matter but Polygon said they have already contacted it for a reaction as it is important to know if "NBA 2K15" will also end up with the same problems.
