Samsung Galaxy S6 Active Spotted in Bluetooth SIG Database; Release Date, Specs & Price Details Here
The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6 Active, which is rumored to be released in a few months time, has reportedly been spotted in the Bluetooth SIG database.
An Android Authority report explained that Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) is the body that oversees the implementation of Bluetooth connectivity in all devices. "Unannounced phones can often be spotted in its public database," the report added, noting that valuable information can be taken from the Bluetooth SIG listing.
From this, the site noted that despite the absence of a hard rule saying that a device spotted in the BSIG database will soon be launched, it is an indication that "the device is on its way."
An earlier Android Pit article reprted that the release of the Galaxy S6 Active will be sometime next month or in June, as they have computed the period based from the two- to three-month release delay between the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy S4 Active.
Expected to be at least equivalent in price to Galaxy S6 or cheaper, the Galaxy S6 Active will reportedly include a 5.1-inch QHD Super AMOLED screen which is similar to the S6 and S6 Edge. Android Pit added that the device will also come in an octacore Exynos 7420 chipset, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of o-board storage, and a 16-megapixel camera similar to what the Galaxy S6 has.
The phone will also be waterproof, as SamMobile noted, but this additional feature will increase the size of the phone to 73.6 x 146.9 x 8.8 mm as compared to the Galaxy S6's 70.5 x 143.4 x 6.8 mm. It will also have a larger battery of 3,500 mAh which will surely delight many Android fans.
Aside from being waterproof, Android Pit said the Galaxy S6 is also rumored to be dustproof and "seriously durable."
"The Active range has always been for the adventurous, careless or seriously clumsy and we expect the S6 Active to bring at least one additional ''active'' feature to the mix," the same report noted.
Android users are also hoping that they will be able to experience a touch-based finger scanner with the upcoming mobile release and to be able to charge it wirelessly.
As for design, Android Pit said it is likely that the glass back cover of the Galaxy S6 will be replaced with plastic in the S6 Active to make it "lighter, more shock absorbent and generally more rugged than glass."
"We somehow doubt that even with a plastic backing though that the Galaxy S6 Active battery would be removable or have a microSD card slot. If it did though, oh boy, Samsung could instantly win back anyone that doesn't like the Galaxy S6," added Android Pit.
It is also expected that the Galaxy S6 Active will feature a rugged design with its screws, bumpers and rubber buttons.
