Final Fantasy 14 A Realm Reborn News: PS4 Release Date Window Set for April 2014
It appears those who own a PlayStation 4 will be able to play Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn in April 2014, according to a new report.
According to Siliconera, the game will be available in April 2014 for PlayStation 4 after the game was launched in August. The beta for the game will begin on Feb. 22. This is also the same day that the PlayStation 4 will launch in Japan, which seems to further confirm that the game is set to appear in April.
In addition to announcing the game will be coming sometime in April, it was also announced that those who bought the game for the PlayStation 3 can upgrade the game to the PlayStation 4. While many developers charge users a small fee to upgrade their games from past consoles to new ones, Square Enix will allow users to jump to the PlayStation 4 from the PlayStation 3 for free. However, once players make the jump to the PlayStation 4, they will not be able to use their account in Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn on the PlayStation 3.
The MMO is the second attempt by Square Enix to bring Final Fantasy 14 to fans of the Final Fantasy series and MMO fans alike. The first version of the game was completely and utterly broken when it was first launched, causing Square Enix to eventually pull the plug on the game. From there, the developer retooled the game almost entirely, and then released A Realm Reborn. The game has been very successful, so much so that the flood of people trying to play the game caused the game's servers to be unable to handle the load. All things considered, this problem was more preferable to Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn being a glitchy mess like the first version of the game.
While PlayStation 4 owners will be able to enjoy Final fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn, it is unclear if Xbox One owners will be able to play the game as well. The big barrier preventing the Xbox One from receiving Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn is the fact that Microsoft is opposed to cross-platform play, which PC and PlayStation 3 and 4 players will be able to enjoy.
