UFC Fight Night 63 Results: Al laquinta Fires Back at Booing Crowd!
After winning against Jorge Masvidal at UFC Fight Night 63, Al laquinta was booed by the audience present at the match which clearly irked the winner.
Yahoo Sports said that laquinta, who won after three rounds against Masvidal, was delivering his post-fight speech when the crowd inside the Patriot Center booed in chorus.
Instead of just letting it pass, the fighter responded to the negative reaction from the audience.
"Are you guys booing me? You better not boo me!" the fighter shouted and directed expletives at the crowd.
MMA Fighting added that laquinta even singled out somebody from the audience by raising his middle finger at him. It also observed that after the match Iaquinta looked like he was at the losing end because he was angry while his opponent was smiling.
Explaining his behavior after the fight, Iaquinta said that the reaction from the crowd got into is nerves.
"I got extremely frustrated when the crowd was booing me. I do this for them. I looked in the crowd and a guy was giving me the middle finger. It really got to me because I do this for the fans," he added, noted Yahoo SPorts.
It was also noted by Yahoo Sports that the effort placed by Iaquinta to seal the close split-decision victory was big, considering that he looked "bloodied, swollen and generally beaten up after his fight with Masvidal."
"Given the energy expended and the entertaining nature of the fight, it is completely understandable that Iaquinta would take exception to being disrespected in such a manner," Yahoo Sports added.
A Bloody Elbow report discussed that the fight was really close, noting that Masvidal was able to deliver slick striking during the first round.
"He rocked Iaquinta badly and for the duration of the second and third rounds. Masvidal was on cruise control, picking Iaquinta apart from the outside with a precise jab," the same report added.
Iaquinta, on the other hand, was reportedly aggressive all throughout the duration of the fight, making it difficult for the public, especially the crowd watching the game live, to choose who should really be the winner based from their performance.
Noting Iaquinta's showcase of skills during the fight, Roy Billington discussed in his Bloody Elbow article that there is potential in this UFC fighter.
"While the decision appeared controversial, I feel he showed he could hang with one of the division's more technical fighters. I would love to see him fight Dustin Poirier, in what would likely be a stand up war," Billington added.
Analyzing the fight, the site also noted that it was "really fun to watch" because of Iaquinta's aggression and Masvidal's counter strikes.
