James 'Bond 24' Trailer & Release Date: ‘Spectre’ Cast Daniel Craig Undergoes Surgery
British actor Daniel Craig has undergone knee surgery after sustaining an injury while filming action scenes in the upcoming James Bond movie "Spectre."
According to Fox News Latino, the 47-year-old actor, who currently portrays the titular character James Bond or Agent 007 in the film installment, hurt his knee while shooting a scene in the Austrian Alps in Switzerland back in January. The injury reportedly got worse while the movie star was filming a shootout scene at Pinewood Studios outside London in February.
It was in Mexico when it was decided "that it might be best for the actor to undergo surgery and prevent future problems," Fox News Latino wrote. While on a production break for the Easter holiday, Craig flew from Mexico City to New York last week to undergo arthroscopic procedure on his knee. The actor is currently residing in NYC with his wife, actress Rachel Weisz.
Director Sam Mendes "decided to keep the movie on schedule and within budget" by shooting scenes which do not include Craig while he recovers from the surgery, the news outlet noted.
A spokeswoman from Eon Productions stated that Craig "will rejoin production on April 22nd at Pinewood (Studios)," as quoted by Fox News Latino. Filming of "Spectre" began in the studio located at Buckinghamshire, England, in December, and has since moved to locations in Rome and Mexico, BBC reported.
This wasn't the first time that Craig sustained an injury while filming "Spectre." Fox News Latino noted that the actor also had a head injury about two months ago when the car he was driving, an Aston Martin, "hit a pothole while shooting a car chase in Rome."
He also had injuries during three of his other James Bond movies. In 2008's "Quantum of Solace," he injured his wrist and head during production and had to undergo collarbone surgery, which made the actor attend the film's premiere with his arm on a sling. In 2012's highly successful Bond flick "Skyfall," Craig hurt a leg muscle which was blamed "on the energy he puts into doing action scenes," Fox News Latino wrote.
More on 'Spectre'
Aside from Craig, "Spectre" also stars Christoph Waltz as Bond's former skiing instructor Oberhauser, Lea Seydoux, Dave Bautista, Andrew Scott, Monica Bellucci, Ben Whishaw, Rory Kinnear, Naomie Harris, and Stephanie Sigman, the film's official site listed. John Logan penned the movie's screenplay with Neal Purvis, and Robert Wade, ComingSoon.net reported.
Directed by Sam Mendes, the film, which is slated for release in November 6, 2015, could also introduce Waltz as Bond's old nemesis, Ernst Stavro Blofeld. The character was the leader in Spectre, "an international crime syndicate which last featured in the Sean Connery-era films," BBC noted.
