Samsung Galaxy S5 Specs and Features Rumors: One-Hand Usage Optimization, OIS Camera Not Happening

It's still early in its development cycle, but it looks like the next-gen Samsung Galaxy S5 handset is already starting to make rounds through the rumor mill. The latest tidbits of speculation include one-hand use optimization for the TouchWiz interface as well as some new information about the device's camera.

According to a recently-discovered Samsung patent, Samsung has been exploring ways to make their devices more friendly to one-hand usage. In a world where Android smartphones seem to get bigger every year, this should come as a welcome relief to the thousands of people who find having to use both hands to access key functions annoying.

Samsung hopes to accomplish this by targeting specific areas of the screen designated within the user's "comfort zone." It seems that apps and important functions within those apps can then be placed optimally in a user's comfort zone, allowing a person to manipulate content with just one hand and one thumb.

There's no mention of which device will get this feature, but it could show up on the Samsung Galaxy S5, which is rumored to enter mass production in January and release in March or April 2014.

Another rumor that recently hit the technosphere is that the Samsung Galaxy S5's camera won't include optical image stabilization (OIS). It seems that Samsung is having trouble on the supply side obtaining the components needed, and that OIS cameras in Samsung devices might not show up until later in the year, presumably on the next-generation Samsung Galaxy Note handset.

Bear in mind that Samsung hasn't confirmed anything regarding the Galaxy S5, so remember to ingest a healthy dose of salt with these rumors.
