'Mission Impossible 5' Trailer, Release Date & Cast News: Tom Cruise Making Headlines as HBO Airs Scientology GF Grooming Story!
One of the most explosive and shocking revelations in the HBO documentary "Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief" is famous Scientology member Tom Cruise's short lived romance with Iranian actress Nazanin Boniadi.
According to the documentary, Cruise's relationship with Boniadi wasn't what you would call conventional. As reported by Business Insider, Cruise expressed his frustration back then about wanting to have a new girlfriend following his split with former flame Penelope Cruz, and his divorce with Nicole Kidman before that.
Being one of Scientology's most treasured members, executives of the church went on an active mission to find a new girlfriend for Cruise, which came the form of Boniadi, "a young Scientologist pre-med student" who was at first misinformed about the organization's plans, Business Insider wrote. Cosmopolitan noted that Boniadi was told she was being cast in a series of Scientology-based films.
Director Alex Gibney revealed that Boniadi "may not speak publicly about her experiences because of an NDA the church pressured her to sign," Business Insider quoted. She was put through "a one-month program of on-camera interviews, intensive auditing, and some security checks."
In preparation for her role as the "Mission: Impossible" star's would-be girlfriend, Boniadi had to break up with her boyfriend, had her braces removed, had her hair color changed by Cruise's hair stylist, and went on a $20,000 shopping spree in high-end stores, the news outlet noted.
It was only after she was flown first class to New York when Boniadi learned about Scientology's true intent, and within a month, she was living in Cruise's mansion in Telluride. However, things started to turn sour between Boniadi and Cruise when Scientology leader David Miscavige visited the actor's home, Business Insider reports.
"Overcome by a severe headache, Nazanin had a hard time understanding Miscavige, which infuriated him. The next day, Cruise - inches from her face - pounded on the table and screamed at her for insulting the head of the church," Gibney said, as quoted by Business Insider.
It was two weeks later when church henchman Tommy Davis told Boniadi that her relationship with Cruise was over. Brokenhearted and upset, Boniadi (who, after the ordeal, went on to pursue an acting career both in TV and film) mistakenly told a friend about the issue with Cruise.
This backfired when her friend talked to someone else at the church about the matter, which resulted to Boniadi going through tedious physical labor as a form of punishment, such as "cleaning out the public bathroom on her hands and knees with a toothbrush, while other people she knew were stepping over her," Business Insider wrote.
