Tara Reid Has Anorexia Nervosa? Everything You Need to Know About Eating Disorder
Once upon a time, Tara Reid was among the most beautiful stars in Hollywood, starring in shows like "American Pie," "Josie and the Pussycats," and "Sharknado."
However, it seems that Reid, now 39, is making waves for a completely different reason: In a series of photos posted on the Daily Mail, she steps out to enjoy the beach, looking too skinny to be healthy - her protruding bones and sagging skin making a buzz online.
A Twitter user said, "You can say what you want, but Tara Reid is not healthy. She needs to eat something, and she needs rehab for alcoholism." Another Twitter user suggested, "someone please give tara reid a garlic baguette and a cuddle."
The actress is not new to this controversy as she had been criticized for her weight before. However, according to Hollywood Life, she had been trying to defend herself and her body but to no avail, telling TMZ, "I'm just a small boned girl, you see? I eat, I eat, I eat, I eat. I'm just what I am. So if you wanna get mad at me cause I'm skinny, go ahead. I am what I am."
Fans and friends of the star are not buying it, though. One of her pals told Hollywood Life, "Tara is just too thin and everyone around her knows it. It's just not healthy. She has a laundry list of excuses but the truth is she just doesn't nourish herself enough."
If they are right, Reid may be suffering from Anorexia nervosa, an eating disorder that results to abnormally low body weight, as people suffering from this have a distorted perception of their figures, and to maintain their weight and shape, they use severe methods of restricting the food they take and controlling calorie intake by misusing laxatives, diet aids and pills, and even by exercising excessively, the World Health Organization explained. According to the United Nations' health arm, anorexia is the third most common chronic condition for adolescent females, although this occurs for adults as well.
Although many assume that Reid is an anorexic, the star admitted another reason for her gaunt and botched figure. According to The Daily Mail, she insisted that she's eating well, but she had to go through a "body contouring" liposuction that left her body misshapen. She candidly talked about the procedure, saying, "I got lipo because even though I was skinny, I wanted - I'm not going to lie - a six-pack. I had body contouring, but it all went wrong. My stomach became the most ripply, bulgy thing."
However, for now, she admitted, "I'm happy with my body, though. But the mental and physical pain I went through after I had the surgery was horrific. I went through two years of living in denial and everyone saying how bad my body was."
The way she looked in her photos though, do you think she needs help?
