PS4 vs. Xbox One News: Sony Console Sells Faster in Europe Following Release Date
After enjoying an epic launch in North America, the success continues for Sony's PlayStation 4. The console finally hit Europe recently, snowballing its already record-breaking sales and outselling the Xbox One. With both consoles now released in Europe and North America, those sales figures may indicate the PS4 is the most popular next-gen console.
According to Chart-Track data acquired by MCV, the PlayStation 4 set a new sales record in the United Kingdom, beating the Xbox One in sales 48 hours after launch. The PlayStation 4 sold over 250,000 units in the two days after it was launched. In comparison, the Xbox One sold around 150,000 units in the first 48 hours after it was released. It is estimated that the PlayStation 4's strong launch earned Sony around £87 million, though exact numbers were not available.
While no other sales numbers have been released yet for other European countries, it looks like the PlayStation 4 is set to be the leader in that region over the Xbox One and the Wii U. While both consoles managed to sell around 1 million units in the time shortly after their official launches (Nov. 15 for the PlayStation 4; Nov. 22 for the Xbox One), the PlayStation 4 was only released in the United States, while the Xbox One was released in over a dozen countries. This means that the PlayStation 4 could begin to pull even further away from the Xbox One as the system continues to be released throughout the world.
Another Chart Track report also shows that the PlayStation 4's exclusives were able to outmatch the Xbox One's exclusive games. Killzone: Shadow Fall reached No. 4 on the U.K. sales chart, and Knack managed to surprise many by reaching No. 13. In comparison, the Xbox One exclusive Forza 5 is No. 15 on the list, and Dead Rising 3 is No. 18 in sales. Overall, Call of Duty: Ghosts was the best-selling game in the United Kingdom at the time, FIFA 14 was No. 2 on the list, and Battlefield 4 was No. 3. The Wii U game Super Mario 3D World is No. 14, despite being one of the best-reviewed games of the year.
