Microsoft Nokia Lumia 1030 Release Date & Price: Top 5 Specs & Features on Wishlist
Following leaks of alleged prototypes that hit the web in 2014, word about the Lumia 1020's successor remains to be product of mere speculations. At this point, we know for a fact that Microsoft is rebranding the Lumia line sans Nokia, and that the Lumia 1030 -- aka McLaren -- is thought to be the company's very first flagship.
The hype over new Lumia smartphones may not be surprising for one major reason: Windows 10 is just that promising.
The operating system projects to be the most unified ecosystem Microsoft has ever built, not to mention that it's aimed for completion before the next Lumia flagships are born.
Neil Broadley, Microsoft's Director of Phone Marketing, said in a dialogue, "We remain completely committed and focused on new flagship products."
"That said, certainly we believe the best time to bring those flagship devices to market is when we have our very latest flagship software experience available. We're focusing our flagship development for slightly later when Windows 10 is available," the director assured.
Windows 10 is expected to arrive "later this year," as suggested by Chris Weber, Corporate Vice President of Sales for the Microsoft Mobile Devices group.
Terry Myerson, Executive Vice President of the Operating Systems group, has also confirmed the arrival of the flagship smartphone "later this year."
As this Windows 10 "flagship" is yet to be confirmed, we've curated five of the Lumia 1030's most interesting specs and features, all wished by prospects. Check them out below.
1. 5.6-Inch Display
A user from this Windows Central forum wants to see a 5.6 inch, clear-black screen for the Lumia 1030. The user indicates either a full HD or 2K display, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 or 4 and no bezels.
From our previous roundup, the Lumia 1030 is pegged to arrive with a 5-inch screen, packing a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels (441 ppi).
In addition, Snapdragon SoC, a quad-core MSM8974 variant of Snapdragon 800 / 801 processor, is expected.
2. 5 MP Front Snapper
This Neowin forum commenter wishes for a "better" front-facing camera, 5 MP to be exact. Users would know that the Lumia 1020 had an HD 1.2 MP wide angle selfie shooter.
3. 4 GB of RAM
Another user from the Windows Central thread hopes to see "4gb+ ram." As previously noted, the Lumia 1030 is touted to pack 2 GB of RAM, the same amount as its predecessor.
4. Waterproofing Feature
The Lumia 1030 has also been wished to be waterproof for up to 50 meters in one hour, as cited in this HPS post. Today, its predecessor is protected only by underwater cases.
Since rumors claim that the Lumia 1030 can own a 50 MP camera, a waterproofing certification is definitely most welcome.
5. 3,000 mAh Battery
A whopping 3,000 mAh battery is expected by mobiles.co.uk, and this is a clear upgrade from the Lumia 1020's 2000 mAh (3.8 V) powerhouse.
The Lumia 1020 has a maximum standby time of 16 days, maximum music playback time of 63 hours and maximum Wi-Fi network browsing time of 6.7 hours.
Citing detail from Tech Eye Tech, Realty Today reported that the Lumia 1030 could sell around $1,000.
