Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini Release Date & Price: Top 5 Specs & Features [Rumors]
When Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S6 at the Mobile World Congress, prospects were glad to realize that it comes with a sexier companion -- the Galaxy S6 Edge. The devices have long stayed in the rumor mills before finally seeing the light of day, and at this point, two more siblings are pegged to follow.
Meet the Galaxy S6 Active, touted to bring water- and dust-proofing abilities absent in the recent S6 models. For a recap, the device is believed to sport the similar 5.1-inch QHD SuperAMOLED display. It allegedly measures 73.6 x 146.9 x 8.8 mm, so it looks to be the largest among all S6 variants.
Active's predicted specs include a whopping 3500 mAh battery, 16 MP main camera, 5 MP front snapper, 32 GB of onboard storage, 3 GB of RAM and an Exynos 7420 SoC processor.
Today we'll be checking at the smaller -- quite obviously -- Galaxy S6 Mini, and how it's been shaped by speculations so far. Take these things with a pinch of salt, as we patiently wait for Samsung's word, or perhaps another set of interesting teasers.
Release Date
The Galaxy S6 Mini is purported to arrive shortly after the standard flagship. In an earlier report, Android Pit writes, "The Galaxy S6 mini will likely follow in Samsung's mini trend and be announced just a few weeks after the Galaxy S6."
Predecessor Galaxy S5 is officially announced on Feb. 24, 2014. The Galaxy S5 Mini followed on Jul. 1, 2014, and if we are to do some numbers, that's a difference of 127 days (around 18 weeks).
So what do rumors say about the Galaxy S6 Mini? Here they are:
1. 4.7-Inch Display
Yes -- that measures just like the iPhone 6. Citing information from @Edutechs, samsunggalaxysvii.com says the Mini will come with a 4.7-inch Full HD SuperAMOLED display (1920 x 1080 pixels). This screen is said to be protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4.
If this holds truth, the device appears to be slightly larger than the Galaxy S5 Mini, which comes at 4.5 inches (720 x 1280 pixels).
2. Snapdragon 810
The Mini is expected to house the similar processor under the standard S6 and S6 Edge's hoods. However, the PCAdvisor says it will be clocked slower. For a reference, the outlet cites the S5 and S5 Mini's Snapdragon 801 processor, yet the latter runs at 1.4 rather than 2.5 GHz.
3. 3 GB of RAM
Android Pit expects to see 3 GB of RAM from the Mini. The standard S6 stores the same amount. Looking at predecessors, the S5 Mini owns 1.5 GB of RAM, while the standard S5 has 2 GB.
4. 20 MP Camera
Rumors have it that the S6 Mini comes with a 20 MP main camera, samsunggalaxysvii.com writes. However, given that the standard S6 has 16 MP, we're taking this insight with another dose of salt.
5. 2100 - 2550 mAh Battery
The PCAdvisor is convinced that the Mini's battery falls between that of two other S-line devices. The source notes, "Expect to find a lower-capacity battery than is found in the S6, but slightly larger than the 2100 mAh found in the S5 mini."
Price
Citing the S5 Mini's starting price at $488.99, Android Pit believes that the Mini "will likely come out a similar price point off contract."
