James Franco Reveals Sexuality in Mag Interview: Straight or Gay?
Will James Franco ever stop being weird? It seems that now is not the time.
The International Business Times reported that for years, people have been wondering whether or not the "127 Hours" actor is straight or gay, and in an interview he conducted with himself for 429 Magazine, it seems that we're nowhere near getting the answer, unless you can follow his train of thought when addressing his sexuality.
For the magazine, Franco had to interview himself as Straight James Franco and respond as the Gay James Franco in hopes that somewhere during the bizarre interview, the Real James Franco will finally end speculations.
Straight James Franco started with a direct question: "Are you f---ing gay or what?"
Gay James Franco responded, "Well, I like to think that I'm gay in my art and straight in my life."
That seems to be a pretty direct answer, but then he added, Although, I'm also gay in my life up to the point of intercourse, and then you could say I'm straight. So I guess it depends on how you define gay. If it means whom you have sex with, I guess I'm straight. In the '20s and '30s, they used to define homosexuality by how you acted and not by whom you slept with. Sailors would f--- guys all the time, but as long as they behaved in masculine ways, they weren't considered gay."
In a more detailed report by the Huffington Post, it turns out that Gay James Franco isn't concerned about the blurred lines that he seems to be stepping on, saying that he enjoys having people be confused about him. He said, "I guess I mean that I like my queer public persona. I like that it's so hard to define me and that people always have to guess about me. They don't know what the hell is up with me, and that's great. Not that I do what I do to confuse people, but as long as they are confused, I get time to play."
In the simplest terms: the Real James Franco does not care about labels, and "gay" is just one of them.
Whether or not he's just being his weird self, Franco actually has a very impressive resume. He wears many hats: the 36-year-old celebrity is not just an Oscar nominated actor. He is also a director, a graduate student, college professor, poet, novelist, and performance artist, among other things, according to the International Business Times.
That being said, it seems that the actor really does not care much for labels, and considering the many things that he seems to be doing, it's also going to be difficult to try sticking him with one.
