'Frozen 2' Movie Trailer, Release Date & Plot Rumors: Will Sequel Continue From 'Frozen Fever'?
Disney is known not to bring sequels to theaters, but it seems that they are making an exception for their biggest animated feature yet.
According to Variety, Disney officially announced their plans for "Frozen 2" at the Walt Disney Co. annual shareholders meeting in San Francisco last Thursday, with the original film directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Bucj developing the project, and Peter Del Vecho producing for Walt Disney Animation Studios.
Chief Creative Officer for Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios John Lasseter made the announcement with Disney Chief, Bob Iger and voice actor for Olaf, Josh Gad.
Lasseter said, "We enjoyed making 'Frozen Fever' so much and being back in that world with those characters. Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck have come up with a great idea for a sequel and you will be hearing a lot more about it and we're taking you back to Arendelle. We are so excited about that."
The magazine also noted that the announcement for the sequel does come as no surprise considering how big a hit the original was, generating almost $1.3 billion at the box office and breaking sales records as far as Disney is concerned.
Forbes has noted that the short film, "Frozen Fever" was a surprisingly touching story that included the appearance of all the major cast members. The website also noted that financially speaking, discussions for "Frozen 2" is somewhat unique considering that it is the only Disney animation in recent years to announce a theatrical sequel, although on the bright side, even "Frozen" ended with a possibility for more storytelling, at the same time, it's totally acceptable to forgo conclusion. That being said, the studio is definitely banking on its success based on the reception for "Frozen Fever", which opened with Disney's live-action version of "Cinderella."
Few details have been released regarding "Frozen 2" however, here is a list of possible plot twists, as suggested by fans:
1) One of the most popular OTPs in animation is for Queen Elsa and Jack Frost to get together. Anna has her guy in the form of Kristoff, it's only fair for Elsa to get someone to love as well, the most popular suggestion being Jack Frost from DreamWorks' film, "Rise of the Guardians."
2) With Elsa's ice powers, it's only fair that Anna gets her own, probably something to balance her sister's.
3) A female villain will add more girl power to the already feminist theme of "Frozen" and it seems like a good plot twist for the Ice Queen to go head to head with another strong female character.
