Danny Trejo has joined the second season of Robert Rodriguez's horror television series "From Dusk Till Dawn."
Production companies El Rey Network and Miramax announced the news recently, Coming Soon wrote. Rodriguez and Trejo have been onscreen collaborators for a long time now. They worked together in the original 1996 "From Dusk Till Dawn" film, four of "Spy Kids" movies, "Machete," "Desperado," and "Grindhouse," Latina noted.
According to a report from Deadline, Trejo will portray the character of "The Regulator" in the series, "a horrifying agent of evil who has been summoned to perform a deadly errand." Trejo will reportedly join D.J. Cotrona, Zane Holtz, Jesse Garcia, Eiza González, Wilmer Valderama, Madison Davenport, and Brandon Soo Hoo. The 10-episode season is currently filming in Austin, Texas.
The 70-year-old actor played the character of "Razor Charlie" in the "From Dusk Till Dawn" movie franchise, Coming Soon noted. His work in television includes the FX series "Saint George" and "NCIS: Los Angeles." Trejo also had recurring roles on "Sons of Anarchy," "King of the Hill," "Franklin and Bash," "Bones," "Modern Family," and AMC's highly popular drama "Breaking Bad."
He also recently provided his voice in the 2014 animated motion picture "The Book of Life" as Skeleton Luis, Coming Soon added.
Aside from Trejo, the second season of "From Dusk Till Dawn" will also star "Step Up 2" actress Briana Evigan as Sonja, "an American expatriate working as a tattoo artist in a Mexican Mercado - who also has a sideline forging papers and passports out of her back room," Deadline wrote.
Season two of "From Dusk Till Dawn" will explore "a new chapter in this supernatural crime saga," Coming Soon noted. It will start off with the characters living in their own separate worlds, but they will all "come together once again - this time facing off against an even bigger threat," it added.
In an interview, Rodriguez described the differences between the film and television versions of "From Dusk Till Dawn." The producer said he likes the TV show better than the movie because the "supernatural elements" work much better in the series, Screen Rant quoted him as saying.
"From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series" is produced by Miramax and Rodriguez International Pictures, FactoryMade Ventures, and Sugarcane Entertainment. Rodriguez serves as executive producer alongside showrunner Carlos Coto, writer Diego Gutierrez, and El Rey Network co-founders John Fogelman and Cristina Patwa, Coming Soon added.
