'Battleborn' PS4 Xbox One PC Release Date, Gameplay & Trailer: 'A Ton' of Characters Coming!
From the makers of "Borderlands 2" comes the highly-anticipated, hero shooter game called "Battleborn," set to arrive this year.
Following its announcement in mid-2014, the title has generated massive interest for a couple of reasons. In the simplest terms, "Battleborn" combines first-person shooter with co-operative campaign, weaving a slew of genres into one convenient gameplay.
Randy Pitchford, president of developer Gearbox Software, said in an earlier press release, "As a genre-fused, hobby-grade, co-operative and competitive FPS exploding with eye-popping style and an imaginative universe, 'Battleborn' is the most ambitious video game that Gearbox has ever created."
Set far in the future, the game introduces heroes called battleborn, all vying to take down the Varelsi, their ultimate enemy. The narrative centers on the last thriving star called Solus, where all the battleborn have gathered for the greater cause.
In a recent article, Gearbox reviews the title's focus on characters, promising a growth in numbers. The developer confirms, "'Battleborn' has a ton of characters, many of whom you'll have a chance to meet in the months ahead, and all of whom have their own unique abilities and weapons."
Solus is home to characters that belong to five different factions. Players will meet: (1) the Eldrid, preservers of nature; (2) the Peacekeepers, the universe's police force; (3) the Rogues, space pirates and smugglers; (4) the Last Light Consortium, "eccentric" proponents of war and (5) the Jennerit Empire, aimed at domination over the Solus system.
Let's take a look at five of Battleborn's characters (via Gearbox):
Thorn
Thorn is the first character to greet us in Battleborn's release trailer. She's easily identified as an archer, and is described to be "one of the fastest moving and highest jumping characters." She is of Eldrid descent.
Montana
Montana is the game's biggest character to date, his head way smaller than the rest of his trunk. He weapons a gargantuan Gatling gun to keep up with his physique, but he's nevertheless known to have "a heart of gold." He belongs to the Peacekeepers.
Reyna
Reyna appears to lead over the Rogue faction. She's described to have "sheer charisma," and through the use of her Command Glove, enemy shields are knocked out.
Marquis
Marquis is an LLC robot who has once served Phoebe, one of the faction's few human members. Along with other abilities, Marquis' greatest weapon is the Overcharge Blast, described to be a "brutal shot that does massive damage if it connects."
Rath
Rath is a Jennerit swordsman who carries two huge katanas. His strength lies in close combat, as evidenced by the ability to rip enemies in shreds.
The game's co-op campaign allows five players, while competitive multiplayer match types allow up to ten.
"Battleborn" is bound to hit the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC before the calendar year makes another turn.
