NHL Trade Rumors 2014: Dmitry Orlov's Agent asks Capitals For a Trade
The agent of Dmitry Orlov asked Washington Capitals general manager George McPhee to trade the 22-year-old defenseman two days after forward Marty Erat also demanded for a trade.
CSN Washington reported that agent Mark Gandler expressed disappointment with Orlov's lack of exposure, saying that the blue liner has no future in Washington.
"Obviously, what Dmitry would like is to be traded because he has no future in Washington whatsoever, zero chance for him," Gandler said. "I think his value as a player is diminishing with every day and the team is losing valuable time and also ruining his career."
Orlov, who was drafted the Capitals in the second round of the 2009 NHL Draft, has yet to play a game this season. He has been bouncing back and forth between the Capitals and the Hershey Bears in the AHL.
Although Orlov has scored three goals with six assists in 10 games at Hershey, Gandler said that it is becoming very difficult for Orlov to play for the Bears and travel back to Washington knowing that he will not be fielded by Capitals coach Adam Oates in the game.
"It's getting for him increasingly difficult to handle this, emotionally and also physically," Gandler said. "He's coming into Washington knowing he's not going to get into the game no matter what. God forbid, this team would have to go down with the flu for Dmitry to get in - everyone."
Gandler also revealed that the Capitals are forcing Orlov to play with the Bears and then go back to Washington to spend time with the Capitals because there is a clause in his contract that Orlov can head to the Kontinental Hockey League if he failed to spend less than 30 days on the roster of the team. So far, Orlov has spent 19 days on the Capitals' roster without playing a single game.
When asked if they are still looking forward to settling their differences with the Caps, Gandler said that Orlov's situation in Washington will remain the same as long as Oates is coach of the Capitals.
"Adam does not like Dmitry's game, and Dmitry's game is not going to change. They know exactly what he brings. There is no intention on Adam's part to use him," Gandler said.
