‘The Walking Dead’ Spinoff Release Date & Plot Spoilers: More Attractive Zombies? First Teasers Out!
AMC's zombie drama "The Walking Dead" has been a consistent strong performer in the network's ratings, so much so that a spinoff series is set to be released for the summer, titled "Fear the Walking Dead."
According to Screen Rant, the new show is set at the beginning of the outbreak and will take place in Los Angeles, about two families who work together to survive the outbreak that will become an all-out zombie apocalypse. It will star Kim Dickens (Gone Girl), Cliff Curtis (Gang Related), Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince), and Alycia Debnam Carey (Into the Storm).
Although cast with different characters and vastly different situations than with Rick Grimes and the gang that we all have grown to love, "Fear the Walking Dead" is expected to offer a fresh perspective on the zombie-apocalyptic world, and will hopefully give insight on the events that lead to society's breakdown.
AMC also seems to have confidence in the show, as the show got a six-episode season slate and already green lit for a second.
Robert Kirkman, who co-wrote the pilot episode and the comic book from which the original series was based, expressed gratitude for the network's investment in the spinoff. In a statement, he said, "We feel empowered by this two-season commitment, a serious show of faith from our network partner AMC. I personally take it as a sign that they believe, like we do, that we've accomplished our goal of developing something original that can pay tribute to the original show and expand the world I created while at the same time having something new to say with this story."
According to The New York Daily News, AMC has been eager to expand "The Walking Dead" since it became among the most popular show for the 18 to 49-year-old viewers, and with no signs of the hype going down soon.
Of course, there is no indication what the difference would be between the East and West Coast versions of the zombie dramas. While "The Walking Dead" is based on Alexandria, "Fear the Walking Dead" is set all the way West in LA. However, as the website pointed out, with the Botox and plastic surgeries rampant in the California Coast, who knows, we might be in for some more attractive Zombies.
"The Walking Dead" airs every Sunday at 9/8c on AMC, while "Fear the Walking Dead" is expected to be in the small screen with six one-hour episodes late in the summer 2015.
