PS3 vs. Xbox 360 News: Free Games for December Announced, No PS4, Xbox One Games Included?
Both Sony and Microsoft have announced the free games that will be available with the premium subscription programs the companies offer in the month of December, and curiously enough neither console maker have announced free games that will be on the new PlayStation 4 and Xbox One titles. However, both companies are offering a classic shooter for users to try out during the month.
IGN is reporting what five games Sony is offering to PlayStation Plus subscribers is highlighted by the critically acclaimed Borderlands 2. The open world shooter is one of the best games ever on the PlayStation 3, so users who have not already explored Pandora should do so in December. Another solid PlayStation 3 title available on PlayStation Plus in December is GRID 2, and is definitely worth a download during the month. The third game available on the PlayStation 3 is the downloadable title Dyad, the PlayStation 3 exclusive game that may have flown under the radar for many fans. The PlayStation Vita will also get two free games: Urban Trial Freestyle and Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.
As for the Xbox 360 Games With Gold program, Microsoft will have two big titles available in December for free. The classic Gears of War will be free through Dec. 15 according to Polygon, and if users have not yet had the chance to experience the origins of the series they should do so and experience the first instances of chainsaw executions in the gritty franchise. After Dec. 15, the Xbox Live Arcade title Shoot Many Robots will be free to download and play. The action-platforming game is an epic game, so users should definitely check it out before receiving their holiday gaming gifts.
Both Microsoft and Sony have selected some strong titles for users to play for free in December. However, neither company has given information about if PlayStation 4 and Xbox One users can expect some free games during the month as well. Sony had previously given PlayStation 4 users Resogun and Contrast to play for free with PlayStation Plus (which itself got a 30 day free trial for those who picked up the new console), so it would be strange if the company did not do so again in December. Microsoft has not officially stated if the Xbox One will get free games with a subscription with Xbox Live Gold, but they have announced the program will continue into 2014.
