iPad 6 Features Rumors: 2014 Release Date for 12.9-inch Retina Display Apple Inc. (AAPL) Tablet, Says Report

Apple Inc. is reportedly working on a new iPad for 2014 featuring a larger component that'll be difficult to not notice.

According to the Korea Times, the Cupertino-based company is allegedly seeking tablets with a larger screen than the current 9.7-inches seen on the current iPad Air.

An official from a local Apple supplier in Korea stated, "Apple's local first-tier display supplier is now producing a 12.9-inch Retina Display to be used in the new iPad, which will be coming out sometime next year."

The unnamed source continued to note that the larger display "is now" being manufactured by a local factory plant.

The source stated Apple is "increasingly interested" in developing bigger iPads for U.S. customers due to the belief tablets will replace PCs over time.

"The 12.9-inch iPad will have improved picture quality," said the source. "As the Apple partner intends to boost its lineup for displays that have almost ultra high-definition (UHD) quality, the upcoming iPad will provide very clear quality similar to that of UHD."

Meanwhile, Samsung is also reportedly working on larger tablet displays. According to the Korea Display Industry Association (KDIA), Samsung is developing OLED screens larger than 10 inches and 13 inches for future Galaxy-brand tablets for 2014.

"By diversifying its tablet lineup, Samsung plans to significantly narrow differences with Apple in the race," a Samsung official stated, via Korea Times. "Samsung believes it also can dethrone Apple in tablets as it did in smartphones."

As Digital Spy noted, the 12.9-inch Retina Display iPad is rumored to be known as the "iPad Pro" with an expected 2014 launch.

Apple has not issued a comment regarding the latest rumors for the iPad.

Apple's latest tablets are the 9.7-inch iPad Air and 7.9-inch iPad mini with Retina Display, which launched across dozens of markets worldwide in November.
