One of the best looks on the red carpet during the Oscars was Lupita Nyong'o in a beautiful Calvin Klein Collection gown made of over 6,000 pearls. It was stunning, and looked even more so on the actress.

However, according to a report by ABC News, the dress has been stolen from Nyong'o's hotel in West Hollywood last Wednesday.

Sergeant Bowman of the West Hollywood Sheriff's Department said that detectives were on the scene and were able to retrieve video footage from the hotel's security. They will be reviewing the video to see if they can identify the culprit.

A representative from the Sheriff's department also told Us Weekly, "We are looking at every scenario; when the cleaners go to clean the rooms they do it with the door open so that's a possibility. Currently we are still investigating, detectives are interviewing and looking for witnesses."

A hotel spokesperson said in a prepared statement, "This is a terribly unfortunate situation, and we are working with law enforcement on their investigation."

Yahoo! News reported that the actress' representatives called to report the theft at around 11:23 in the evening. It is also said that the dress may have been taken from her room sometime between 8am and 9pm, while the actress was out and about. Her publicists, however refused to comment on the theft.

According to E! News, the dress, which was designed by Francisco Costa in collaboration with Nyong'o, took months to create. In an interview with Vogue, Costa said, "[We created] a series of textures with intricate placements of a variety of different-sized pearls. We looked at a variety of different pearls-South Sea, iridescent, and natural-and decided that the natural pearls looked the most beautiful."

Nyong'o also spoke to Yahoo! about the design, telling them, "We talked about it being fluid and liquid. I wanted it to be an homage to the sea."

The dress was made of over 6,000 white Akoya pearls and the actress accessorized it with Chopard diamond drop earrings which so far have not been reported stolen along with her iconic frock).

CNN noted that Nyong'o earned her MFA at the Yale Drama School and won a best supporting actress award at last year's Oscars for her role in "12 Years a Slave." This year, the 31-year-old actress is set to star in "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens," which is due out in December.
