Manny Pacquiao PBA News: Pacman Scores First Basket in Professional Basketball Career [Watch]
It was a memorable first free throw basket for Kia Carnival's Manny Pacquiao on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Philippines, after he was fouled during the second quarter of the Commissioner's Cup game against Purefoods Star Hotshots.
The boxer, who recently ventured into professional basketball in his country, was scoreless for the past two games of the team which he also coaches. But according to Yahoo Sports, he was able to finally shoot a basket when he was fouled with 11:24 left during the second quarter of the match which Kia won with a 95-84 victory.
The WBO welterweight champion entered the game during the second quarter where he drove to the basket in an attempt to shoot but was fouled by Allein Maliksi, Yahoo Sports detailed.
Pacquiao was able to shoot the second free throw after missing the first attempt, giving his team a one-point advantage. Aside from the point, he was also able to make an assist to PJ Ramos but he missed two more shots, Yahoo Sports added.
A separate report by local news network Interaksyon said that Pacquiao only played for five minutes during the second period before he was replaced by Karl Dehesa.
The report added that Pacman has been seen on the bench a couple of times during the duration of the Philippine Cup but it was only his third game on Wednesday.
When asked how he felt about the team's performance during the recent game, Pacquiao expressed his delight on how the players did their part to score points.
"I am glad with their performance because they were able to show something good today so I think we'll win this," he told Interaksyon.
A similar Boxing Scene report said that despite his size, Pacquiao was still able to make his first official score in the league. He even said that he is not used to the feeling of making a basket for the first time.
He is surely ecstatic with his recent feat even if he has a lot of commitments to attend to with him being a professional boxer, a lawmaker, a celebrity and a basketball player all at the same time.
Pacman has created a buzz in the sports world when he expressed his intention to join professional basketball considering that he will be going against giant players. He, however, explained that boxing will remain his first priority.
His numerous commitments, according to Boxing Scene, has become the reason for people to criticize his priorities especially his "lack of commitment to politics."
In 2014, Pacquiao reportedly attended only 34 parliamentary sessions for Saranggani province which he represents.
He has one of the most number of absences in the House of Representatives since he has been busy with his boxing fights outside the country.
