Apple Watch Release Date & Price: Big Health Features Cut? Inconsistent Sensors Spotted
This might sound unfortunate, but recent reports suggested that Apple has ditched its original plans for the much-awaited Apple Watch.
Apparently, the wearable will not be packing a number of advanced health features, blood pressure tracking for instance.
Citing information from the Wall Street Journal, CNET wrote that some features are either too complicated, failed to work properly or required regulatory approval. According to the outlet, the Cupertino giant is reportedly forced to cut down on these perks before the final product hits the market.
For those who may not know, the Apple Watch is expected to arrive in April, PCMag said. The source also took note of the wearable's alleged inability to measure heart activity and stress levels.
The device's skin conductivity sensors are also noted to flag inconsistencies when applied to different people. The same thing happened in the measurement of blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
According to InformationWeek, Apple has already placed 5 - 6 million preorders on the wearable. In response to the trimming of features, the company is expected to compensate with other means of attracting prospective customers.
For one, the AppleInsider took note of Tim Cook's remarks at the recent Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference. Referring to the Apple Watch, Cook said, "If I sit for too long, it'll tap me on the wrist and tell me to move."
"A lot of doctors believe sitting is the new cancer. If you haven't moved within the hour, it'll tap you. You'll be in a meeting, and we have a lot of employees now that are using the watch, so about 10 minutes before the end of the hour, everybody starts standing up," the CEO went on.
The Apple Watch's abilities are truly astounding, but it goes to say that it's not perfect. As told by PCMag, a recent article has informed that the wearable will provide 3.5 hours of application usage, charging time in between.
The number could even sink to 2.5 hours if the device is used more often. Hence, those eyeing at least 12 hours of non-stop use might best forget their hopes. Twenty-four-hour use is fantasy.
Three collections of the Apple Watch are bound to arrive at launch. The standard version starts at a retail price of $349. The brand's Edition collection, being the luxury variant, is expected to sell more expensively.
