MacBook Air Retina 2015 Release Date, Specs, Features & Price: Refresh Out Next Week? Stunning Form Tipped!
The MacBook Air family might get a refresh as early as next week, if recent reports hold absolute truth.
The new line is expected to launch on Feb. 24, Tuesday, the Venture Capital Post reported. The rumored MacBook Air with Retina Display, on the other hand, is believed to arrive in June's Worldwide Developers Conference.
Citing information from the Cult of Mac, the outlet noted that the current lineup may be upgraded to Intel's Broadwell chips and new ULV Core i5 and i6 chips.
Feb. 24 is a date worth remembering, as this has been the day when Apple co-founder Steve Jobs was born.
As noted by The Motley Fool, a number of sources have indicated that revamped MacBook Air units are set to come in "late February" and "with no fanfare or keynote presentation."
Considering Intel's launch of Broadwell chips in January's Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the outlet is convinced that the Cupertino giant packs Broadwell into the current lineup and goes for Skylake with the redesigned MacBook Air. For those who may not know, Skylake chips are successors to the Broadwell family.
Interestingly, Apple has stopped restocking shipments of "certain MacBook Air configurations," the AppleInsider wrote. In addition, resellers were said to be given the go-signal to deduct prices of existing 11- and 13-inch models.
Despite the news centering only on a refresh, reports aimed at the 12-inch Retina MacBook Air have not ceased. KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has predicted that the new model arrives in March, Macworld said. At the least, that could be two weeks from now.
Seeing the Apple Watch's launch in April, Macworld believed that a March event would be likely.
The new notebook is purported to come with a slimmer and lighter design, as well as a fanless architecture. As told by TechRadar, spy shots revealed that the device's case features a "polished" Apple logo -- a possible replacement to the glowing type embedded in current MacBook Air and Pro units.
As listed by Stuff, alleged specs of the new model include an 11.8-inch screen, 2732 x 1536 pixel resolution, increased battery life and a non-clickable touchpad. Check out some leaked photos here.
A gold version of the new notebook is also believed to be underway, TechRadar noted.
Macworld reported that the Retina MacBook Air is purported to cost $1,099. Until then, we'll be on the lookout for this month's event for more information.
The Retina MacBook Air joins this year's list of rumored Apple devices, which include the 2015 MacBook Pro, iPad Air 3, iPad Mini 4, iPad Pro (aka iPad Air Plus), iPhone 6s, iPhone 7 and sixth-generation iPod touch.
