Nintendo Mii App Release Date & Updates: The New Social Network? Exciting Features Underway!
Japanese gaming giant Nintendo will enter the mobile arena through an application making use of Mii characters. According to The Verge, president Satoru Iwata has recently confirmed that the company is already working on it.
Speaking to The Nikkei, Iwata expressed, "It would be fun for players to use their Mii characters as icons on social media. We are currently developing an application that will allow users to do that."
"The app will be announced around the time our full-year results are released," he added.
As told by Engadget, the avatar app will be announced around Mar. 31. The outlet is convinced that this will be the company's "first solid commitment" to mobile, following the 2012 release of "Pokédex."
At this point, it is unknown which social networks are bound to be supported by the Mii app, and what mobile devices are set to carry it. Not to mention the idea that it could be a totally separate social network. Until then, we'll have to hear more from Nintendo.
This is not the first time Iwata has spoken about the appearance of Nintendo apps among smartphones. IGN reported that in the past, the president has thought of extending the Nintendo Network ID and taking advantage of smart devices.
The outlet added that Iwata is set to lead an investor's meeting on Feb. 17.
Unfortunately, those expecting to see Nintendo games on smartphones may not see what they hope for. TechnoBuffalo cited Iwata's remarks, "I have opposed making smartphone and tablet versions of Nintendo titles; prices for content aimed at smartphones and tablets are falling quickly. I am still wary of the category."
For the uninitiated, Miis are avatars / caricatures created by users, set to participate in Wii Sports and other specially-designed Wii games. They may be created through the Mii channel and stored on the Wii console.
How to Create a Mii
Creating a Mii involves three easy steps (via Nintendo Wii Sports):
1. Go to the Mii Channel on your Wii Menu.
2. Select the New Mii icon.
3. Start creating! Use the icons to add features to your Mii -- like a smile, eye color, funky hairdo and more.
How to Mingle with other Miis
Mii characters can mingle with each other through the Check Mii Out Channel. To access this, follow the steps below:
1. Connect Wii console to the internet.
2. From your Wii Menu, go to Wii Shop Channel.
3. Go to Wii Channels section.
4. Look for the Check Mii Out Channel and download.
5. Go back to your Wii Menu to see the channel.
