Alberto Rodriguez's Thriller 'La Isla Minima' Wins Big At the 29th Goya Awards
"La Isla Minima" was a huge success at the Spanish Film Academy's 29th Goya Awards held in Madrid on Saturday.
The Spanish thriller film directed by Alberto Rodriguez won in 10 out of the 17 categories in which it was nominated, Fox News Latino reported.
Some of the awards the movie won are the Best Original Screenplay and Best Original Music Score. Javier Gutierrez and Nerea Barros also won the Best Actor and Best New Actress awards, respectively, the news outlet added.
"La Isla Minima" or "Marshland," set in 1980, centers on a pair of outsider policemen as they discover some dirty truths in the Andalucian wetlands. The two, played by Gutierrez (Juan) and Raul Arevalo (Paul), travel from Madrid to Spain's deep south "to investigate the mysterious disappearance of two sisters after a local fiesta," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In "La Isla Minima," characters that were introduced usually come and go, but, as pointed out by The Hollywood Reporter, "there's detail in all of them." Performances from the actors are "classy" and the script, written by Rodriguez and Rafael Cobos, "uses the thriller format to lock together the personal, the social and the political in what adds up to not only a darkly ambiguous thriller but a portrait of an isolated community."
The film also stars Manolo Solo, Antonio de la Torre, Jesus Carroza, Jesus Castro, and Salva Reina. "La Isla Minima" was produced by Atipica Films, Atresmedia, and Sacromonte Films, the news outlet noted.
