Selena Gomez to Reunite with 'Spring Breakers' Star James Franco in 'In Dubious Battle'
Selena Gomez will team up once more with James Franco in his latest film, "In Dubious Battle."
According to E! Online, the former Disney darling will star alongside Franco, Vincent D'Onofrio, Robert Duvall, Ed Harris, Bryan Cranston, and Danny McBride. The film will be directed by Franco and will be based upon John Steinbeck's novel of the same name.
"In Dubious Battle" will revolve around the economic struggle of America's 1930s Great Depression-era. It will take place in a fictionalized valley in California and "explore themes Steinbeck continued to develop: group behavior, social injustice, man's inhumanity to man - all themes which continue to be relevant today," the news outlet noted.
"A labor conflict between migrant apple pickers and the local growers' association is the backdrop against which Jim Nolan (Franco) becomes involved in the labor movement and rapidly matures as he learns what it means to do organizational fieldwork," E! Online added.
Gomez is currently filming "The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving," according to Latina Entertainment. The indie movie will feature the story of Ben, played by Paul Rudd, a caregiver taking care of Craig Roberts' Trevor, a frustrated teenager who is suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
The brunette beauty will portray the character of Dot, a "sassy young woman" who joins Ben and Trevor on a road trip. Trevor develops a crush on her when she showed "forwardness and lack of embarrassment" on his medical condition, Latina Entertainment noted.
In an interview with David Letterman back in March 2013, Gomez talked about her first impression of Franco while they were filming "Spring Breakers."
"He stayed in character the whole time and luckily for me, my character was creeped out by him, because I genuinely was at first," the actress said, as quoted by the news outlet. "We shot the movie for four weeks, then he came in and walked on set as his character and freaked me out."
Gomez added, "That's who I knew, until we started doing press and I realized he's one of the most intelligent people I've ever met. He's really nice, I promise. He's great."
