Android L 5.0 OTA Release & Download: Samsung Galaxy S5, S4, S3, Note 2 & Note 3 Updates Out!
Android's latest operating system, the Android 5.0 Lollipop, will soon make more Samsung Galaxy S5 handsets sweeter, Know Your Mobile reported. According to the outlet, a global seeding is expected following the initial release which started two months ago.
At present, Galaxy S5 units under Verizon have already received the software update. As told by Android Central, Verizon's S5 is the first in the U.S. to get Android's sweetest treat yet. However, not all users are bound to get the update immediately, as expected in all staged roll-out processes.
Citing information from TechTastic, BGR reported that the Galaxy S4 is also receiving the Lollipop build. Just like the Galaxy S5, the update arrives in "certain markets" for the meantime, beginning in Russia for the GT-I9500 model.
The S4 update weighs more than 1 GB, but technically requires 3 GB of space for installation, TechnoBuffalo wrote. This must not be mistaken with the Galaxy S4 GPE, which, the outlet pointed, is already running Lollipop.
Meanwhile, the Christian Post noted that Samsung has not spoken regarding the Galaxy S3's Lollipop upgrade. Despite the absence of an official OTA update, a custom Android 5.0.2 Lollipop ROM has been released for the Galaxy S3 I9300, International Business Times cited.
According to the outlet, the CyanogenMod 12-based Resurrection Remix ROM was released by XDA developer varund7726. XDA advised prospects to download the latest build here.
Notable features include Status bar clock customization, network traffic monitor, toast animations, navigation bar dimensions, quick unlock, Slim, Omni and original RR improvements, system UI changes and CM 12 features, among others.
The CyanogenMod team has also released an Android 5.0.2 Lollipop Nightly build (CyanogenMod 12) for the Galaxy Note 2 GT-N7105, AndroidXDA wrote.
On top of prominent features such as a new theme engine, quick settings ribbon mode, lock-screen quick unlock and sound panel customization, the CM 12 build introduces "fully-working" data and service, camera, video, messaging and music.
On the downside, the build is noted to have sensor promixity issues, low volume (on calls), non-working NFC and an untested GPS.
Through another CM 12 custom ROM, the Galaxy Note 3 LTE N9005 may also be updated to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, Team Android reported. This is also a Nightly version, and it must be noted that installation can bring FC errors, boot loops and other bugs.
Nevertheless, the outlet pointed a certain fix, which can be done by reinstalling stock firmware or another custom ROM that's stable.
As for later phablets Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge, IBT AU noted that their Lollipop updates (OTA) are yet to come.
