One Direction Latino? Simon Cowell, La Banda Looking For New Boyband
The search is on for the next One Direction.
According to J-14, music mogul Simon Cowell has started scouting for Latino boyband members aged 14 and over that could follow the steps of One Direction, one of the most popular singing groups of today composed of Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson. Interested boys could go over to audition for "La Banda," a series Cowell is creating on U.S. Spanish-language channel Univision.
He tweeted: "Auditions now open to be part of the ultimate Latino boyband. If you know someone who could be a star? Go here https://labandaoficial.com"
"The show airs on Univision this September. This show could give someone the chance of a lifetime. And you know dreams really can come true!" Cowell added.
Winners of the competition will be given a contract with Sony Music Latin and Cowell's music label, SyCo Music, according to a report from MTV. Hopeful applicants, however, must live in the United States or Puerto Rico.
Cowell was also responsible for putting together the sexy new girl band Fifth Harmony, J-14 noted. The five girls first got their start as soloist competitors on "The X Factor," but ended up as a group at the end of bootcamp.
Simon Cowell and One Direction Named Britain's Most Influential People
Debrett's has released the 2015 edition of the 500 most influential people list this week, recognizing those of "influence and achievement in British society," Digital Spy reported.
The publisher described their selections as those people who made "the most impact on this fast-changing industry" ranging from "the recording artists and record label executives, to the radio playlist-setters, music critics and the people changing the face of the music industry in the digital age," Debrett's explained.
Aside from Cowell and One Direction, the list also honors Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Damon Albarn, Gareth Malone, Calvin Harris, and many others, Digital Spy added.
Louis Tomlinson as Music Mogul?
As if following the footsteps of Cowell as a music producer, reports have been claiming that 1D member Tomlinson is on the lookout for new talents after he followed several unsigned bands on Twitter.
According to a report from Daily Mail, the 23-year-old British singer has started a new company called 78 Productions Limited, and, as told by an insider in the music industry, has "spent a lot of time backstage at 'The X Factor' last year" so he could get a sense on how the business works.
Tomlinson, along with Payne, discovered the potential of the band 5 Seconds of Summer and invited the newcomers to support 1D on tour. This then resulted to all members of One Direction owning a stake in 5SoS.
