Samsung Galaxy S6 Release Date, Specs & Price: Gear VR Support Likely? [Rumors]
Many are awaiting the release of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and now interested consumers have something new to look forward to as reports have it that the smartphone is going to sport a Gear VR support, Sam Mobile reported.
The Gear VR was first introduced by Samsung during the IFA held in Berlin last year alongside the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge, the outlet explained. The headset allows users to enter virtual reality without the need for an external simulator. That is unless they have the Note 4, which at the time was the only smartphone that supported the device.
Sam Mobile sources claimed, however, that the Gear VR is going to be compatible with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6, and also the Samsung Galaxy S Edge.
A demo video of the Gear VR was also posted last week on YouTube by Samsung Mobile U.S.A. so interested consumers can see what's in store for them if they choose the handset and if the headset is usable with the Galaxy S6 and S Edge.
As for the Samsung Galaxy S6, information about it are still based on rumors, with a recent speculation appearing online concerning the handset's chipsets.
Reports have it that the Galaxy S6 will be passing on using Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 chipset due to issues with overheating.
While Samsung hasn't confirmed it, it seemed like Qualcomm may have confirmed the news when they revealed their most recent financial report, according to The Verge.
The company announced that the Snapdragon 810 processor "will not be in the upcoming design cycle of a large customer's flagship device," which lessens their expected revenue and sales for the second half of the year.
It wasn't like Qualcomm directly pointed out the Galaxy S6, but it is still possible, especially as reports claimed that Samsung has decided to start depending on its own Exynos processor, The Verge added.
Qualcomm can still depend on HTC and LG though, as the Snapdragon 810 will be appearing on the HTC M9 and LG G Flex 2, The Verge continued
The Galaxy S6 is said to be featuring an aluminum unibody chassis, with wireless charging, 3GB RAM and a 20 MP camera with OIS, according to IBTimes. It may also come with a 2,550 mAh battery and a 5.5-inch Quad HD display with a resolution of 2560x1440, as well as sporting an Exynos chip.
No price estimation has appeared for the Samsung Galaxy S6, but rumors claimed that it may be introduced at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain this March.
