'Captain America 3: Civil War' Trailer, Plot, Cast & Release Date: Daniel Bruhl to Play Villain
It's full steam ahead for Marvel and Paramount Picture's "Captain America: Civil War," and recent reports have claimed that the film has finally found its villain in none other than Daniel Bruhl, IGN reported
"Civil War" is the third film in Marvel's "Captain America" film franchise, beginning with "The First Avenger" in 2011 and followed by last year's "The Winter Soldier." The third film is set to be the start of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase Three and will see the return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America.
With the hero already in place, all that's left is his foil and this time it's "Inglourious Basterds" star Bruhl who may be playing supervillain Baron Zemo.
Bruhl's supposed new role came about due to the casting sheet that appeared on Movie Casting Call.
Bruhl's name and role were listed alongside other confirmed stars, such as Evans as Captain America, Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff a.k.a. Black Widow, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes a.k.a. Winter Soldier, Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man, Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa a.k.a. Black Panther and Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow a.k.a. Crossbones.
While fans might be excited over the news, they should also remember that the casting list is still unofficial and neither Marvel nor a rep for Bruhl has yet to speak up about the matter, according to Screen Rant.
When Bruhl was cast by Marvel in November, all that was mentioned was that he had a key role in the film and that he will be "sharing the screen with some of their biggest heroes," ScreenRant recalled. Bruhl's character may also appear in the upcoming "Doctor Strange" film, if rumors are to be believed.
Then again, with Bruhl's role still unknown, it seems likely that he will really play the villain in the film.
But, which Baron Zemo character will Bruhl be playing?
Comic book fans who have closely followed Captain America's story must be aware of Baron Zemo's story. He was first introduced in the comics as Nazi scientist Dr. Heinrich Zemo who faced off against Captain America during the World War II. After his death, his son Helmut took over as new Baron who also fought Captain America, Screen Rant explained. So, will Bruhl be Heinrich or Helmut?
"Captain America 3: Civil War" is slated for a theatrical release on May 16, 2016. It follows the altercation between Captain America and Iron Man regarding the Superhuman Registration Act, which requires all individuals with superpowers to register with the government and S.H.I.E.L.D., Cinemablend reported.
Production begins in Atlanta in April, according to Collider's interview with Joe Russo, the film's director. Hopefully a trailer will follow before the year ends and fans will get more news about Bruhl and Baron Zemo.
