'Dead or Alive 5: Last Round' PC, Steam Release Date, Pre-Order Bonus, New Characters & Everything You Should Know
It has been confirmed that the fighting game "Dead or Alive 5: Last Round" is being delayed for more than a month, moving its release date from Feb. 17 to March 30, Attack of the Fanboy reported.
"Dead or Alive 5" is part of the "Dead or Alive" franchise developed by Team Ninja and Sega AM2. It was released in September 2012 simultaneously to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Polygon noted. Fans and gamers are looking forward to its latest update, "Last Round," but two more months of waiting isn't so bad.
According to the game's official listing on Steam, the game's release date is being delayed "in order to provide you with the best experience possible." They also shared that the online modes will be added as a patch within three months after the game's release.
Have no fear though, because Steam has a few offerings to make the delay sting less and also to keep fans busy until the game comes.
First, Steam is offering a special 10 percent discount for those who want to pre-purchase the game, with its original price tag of $40 coming down to $30. The promo will end on March 30 when the game is officially released.
Second, they're offering the Halloween 2013 set and its 28 costumes free of charge for all those who purchased "Last Round" on Steam.
For now, gamers can already expect the final roster of thirty-four fighters that will be introduced in the game, the most fighters of any of the games in the franchise, according to IGN.
Yohei Shimbori provided a brief information on what players can expect from the new roster, in an interview with Venture Beat.
"When we add new characters, we usually use the new characters' unique qualities to make them as strong as the existing characters. Then we go back and balance the existing characters to make sure they can hold their own against these unique new characters. We also realize when we look back at player data that some things are not quite right, and we fix those. So the amount we change varies on what kind of change we're making, but almost all characters need rebalancing.
We also tried introducing some new combat systems, but we felt that making the system more complex wouldn't be good for casual players. The overall player numbers would shrink, rendering all the things we've tried to do so far meaningless. We have also shown that Dead or Alive can hold its own as a legitimate tournament fighter, and we didn't want to do anything to put that at risk. We definitely have ideas for new systems, but for those reasons, we decided not to add them to Last Round," Shimbori explained.
One such fighter that's appearing is 18-year-old Honoka, who was introduced two weeks ago by Team Ninja, a separate IGN report recalled. She is able to learn any fighting move she sees and copies it. By combining the moves, she develops her own fighting style called the Honoka Fu.
A trailer for Honoka also appeared on Jan. 14, showing off her skills as she faced off against a variety of regular fighters. Gamers also get to see some of her new costumes.
"Dead or Alive 5: Last Round" will be released to PCs via Steam on March 30 for $40. It's still expected to come out as a retail version for $40 to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC; and $30 to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on Feb. 17 in North America and Feb. 20 in Australia and Europe, according to IGN.
