'Strange Magic' Movie a 'Star Wars' Film for Girls, Says George Lucas

George Lucas has made a lot of iconic films in his time, and among them is the franchise for all 12-year-old boys, which we all know to be "Star Wars." There is no doubt about its success as decades after the first film was released people are still enthralled by the story enough to make other films and animation series... there's really no end.

Now comes another film from Lucas, and as a father of three daughters, it's said to be geared for little girls this time. It turns out that he decided to make another film for his children, called "Strange Magic" and it could be something like "Star Wars."

Actually, that's what he wanted it to be. He said in Wired, "Just like Star Wars was designed for 12-year-old boys, 'Strange Magic' was designed for 12-year-old girls."

The website spoke about the movie in detail, discussing what the filmmaker wanted in the film. There are two things that he knew he wanted it to be: first, that it will tell a story about love, and second, that it will be a fairy tale... which ended up being "Strange Magic," a tale inspired by Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream."

The story centers on the unpleasant Bog King (Alan Cumming), who is a foul-tempered ruler with quite a distate for love and everything related to it. But then he meets Marianne (Evan Rachel Wood), and they find themselves into a romantic entanglement, along with a magic love potion.

Making the animated film, however, was not as easy as one would think it will be. Lucas himself admitted that it was not that simple to make. He told Hollywood Life, "It's like a Rubix Cube. It took 15 years- it's not an easy process!"

Considering that "Strange Magic" was made for little girls, there are no lightsabers or intergalactic space ships to see here, but more fairies and magic and a great soundtrack, hand-picked by Lucas himself.

He told the Los Angeles Times, "I thought, wouldn't it be fun to make the movie using existing music and find lyrics from the songs to actually tell the story. was trying to take my archive of music that continues long after I did 'American Graffiti' and go through it."

And it seems that he found a chart-popping soundtrack that features a range of songs from Elvis Presley to Kelly Clarkson and the Black Eyed Peas.

"Strange Magic" will be released in theaters on January 23rd. Are you going to watch?
