Amir Khan & Prince Charles Meeting: Boxer Discovers Royalty Suffered More Injuries Than Him
English boxer Amir Khan recently discovered in a meeting with Prince Charles that the royalty sustained more injuries than him because of playing polo.
An AFP report published on Yahoo Sports said that the two met in Sunderland, northeast England during Prince Charles visit to a National Citizen Service Project which was supported by Khan. The project enables young people to help the elderly learn about social media.
Asked about what he can say on the heir to the British throne, Khan said that Charles is "a very nice guy.:
"I have met him two or three times before and he seems like a boxing fan. We had a bit of a chat about boxing and we had a chat about his polo and how many injuries we'd had," Khan said, explaining that the royalty sustained more injuries playing polo than him on his entire career in boxing.
"It shows you can get injured in all sports," he added, as quoted by the AFP report.
According to the Telegraph, Prince Charles, who is now 66, broke his right arm in 1990 when he fell from a polo pony and spent three nights in a hospital. He had to undergo a second operation three months after the accident to insert a metal plate on a bone which has not yet healed at that time, the report added.
In 2001, he was unconscious after falling during a charity match but did not suffer serious injuries.
It was also reported that on his hunting trips, he also had several back injuries, a knee surgery on a worn out cartilage and a broken shoulder bone and rib. He had to give up polo 10 years ago.
Khan, on the other hand, suffered hand fractures on some of his fights but he has not experienced a really serious injury.
Aside from Khan, the Prince also met Martha Armstrong, a 63-year-old retired woman living in a local complex for the aged.
"We talked about grandchildren, tablets and technology. I cannot describe the experience I had - I didn't think I would be introduced to him," Armstrong told Telegraph.
The elder woman said her life changed when she started learning about new technology and that it was able to help her connect to her other family members and netizens all over the world.
"The scheme is absolutely brilliant. It's nothing to be afraid of," she added.
During his trip, Charles also visited the most productive car plant in Britain and saw a line of electric cars made by Nissan.
It was surely a meaningful trip for the royalty who was not only able to meet Khan but also shared himself to the elderly in the area.
