'Destiny 2' Release Date & Wishlist: 'Lord of the Rings' Storyline Tipped; Saturn Setting Soon?

By Staff| Jan 17, 2015

It has been confirmed that the sequel to 2014's "Destiny" is beginning development. Official word came from Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg, and he said, "Work has also begun on future expansion packs, as well as on our next full game release."

The sequel, popularly dubbed as "Destiny 2," is part of Activision's 10-year plan for the franchise. According to Christian Today, reports suggested that the title's next installment takes on a "Lord of the Rings" feel for its narrative.

If this holds truth, fans who have loved "Destiny" and the adventures of Frodo and Bilbo Baggins would most certainly enjoy the upcoming sequel. While a "Lord of the Rings" narrative appeared to be unclear at this point, it may be safe to say that Bungie and Activision's plans are all pushing for the better.

As told by Christian Today, rumors claimed that "Destiny 2" doesn't come out until 2016, leaving fans and prospects another year of wait. PlanetDestiny.com believed that the franchise would benefit from a change of scenery, predicting that the sequel will bring players to new locations.

Interestingly, the source mentioned two remote settings gamers cannot currently visit -- Saturn and Jupiter. Citing many of Saturn's derelict ships from the Golden Age, the outlet indicated that the planet belongs to the list of locations in the game's database.

There had also been two Grimoire cards for the location. On top of those, Bungie's earlier ViDoc revealed that the planet is indeed among the itinerary of visits. Technical art director Ryan Ellis then said, "You can from Earth to Venus, to Mars, to the moon, to Saturn..."

Location aside, what changes should "Destiny 2" bring?

Game & Guide reported that the "storytelling" in "Destiny" has been the game's most-criticized part. The source pointed the title's need to incorporate "real" plot and in-depth characterization, not just mere edition of dialogue. The current game's insufficiency as a competitive multiplayer mode was also noted.

Meanwhile, Metro wanted the next "Destiny" to be something that's "easier to understand" -- instructions and features under consideration. The outlet also pressed for better characterization.

For now, "Destiny" is available for the PS4, PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360. Select your platform / region / edition / retailer and purchase the game here.
