iPhone 6s Release Date, Specs & Price: Display to Make Use of 'Force Touch' Tech?
The rumor mill is already churning out speculations about Apple's rumored next release, the iPhone 6s, Business Insider reported.
Apple's iPhone 6 launched only a few months ago, but as it goes in the tech industry, moving forward and continuously upgrading is a must. Such is the case for the upcoming iPhone 6s, and if rumors are to be believed, the Cupertino-based electronics company has something new in mind for the device's screen.
The story came from Asian news source Tech News Taiwan, which reported that Apple is planning on a pressure-sensing technology named Force Touch. It's the sort of screen that's already set to come out in the Apple Watch, but now Force Touch, "the most significant new sensing capability since multitouch," will make its way to smartphones.
The Force Touch works by being able to tell the difference between a deep press and a light tap, which dictates what functions the Apple Watch will perform.
It's definitely a step up to the multitouch screens Apple currently uses on its iPhones. However, it's not going to be easy to adapt the same technology.
The tiny electrodes that surround the Apple Watch's flexible OLED display and perform the Force Touch function are different from the screens of iPhones, according to Apple Insider. If Apple wants to put in the Force Touch capability, they'll need to find a way to modify the iPhones' rigid displays and also ensure the measurements fit.
So if the rumors are right, then there is a chance Apple will have phones with flexible displays in the future.
Other rumors that are still waiting to be confirmed or denied are the supposed 2GB of internal RAM and the use of a faster LPDDR4 RAM tech, according to Mac Rumors.
These are the kind of RAM modules that not only offer low power consumption, but also greatly improve the iPhone 6s's performance, compared to the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus with its 1GB and LPDDR3 RAM. So their addition to the iPhone 6s is considered pretty significant, if the rumors are true.
Mac Rumors added that these will be supplied by Samsung, Hynix and Micron-Elpida, with the latter rumored to actually be behind schedule.
The iPhone 6s is also said to be coming out in September, following other iPhones that have come out in the same month in the past years, according to Realty Today. There also has been no price estimates released, but considering the rumored specs and also compared to the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, gadget enthusiasts may expect to shell out a pretty price for the iPhone 6s.
