iPad Pro Leaked? 12.2-inch Tablet Mold Emerges - Release Date, Specs, Features & Price Rumors
An image of the speculated iPad Pro mold (aka iPad Air Plus) has surfaced online, turning heads around to what could be Apple's next big thing. The controversial photograph was reportedly taken at Foxconn's factory in China, the Daily Mail wrote.
Talks about the alleged iPad version have been around for some time now. As told by the Tech Times, the recent leaked image showcased a screen measuring 12.2 inches. Interestingly, this measurement coincided with earlier display rumors.
The Daily Mail cited experts who believed that the mold would yield a tablet measuring 12 inches tall, 8.7 inches wide and 0.27 inches thick (a dimension of 305.3mm x 220.8 mm x 7mm).
However, earlier allegations claimed that the upcoming iPad would pack a bigger 12.9-inch display, the Telegraph cited.
Nevertheless, the device always seemed larger than the Cupertino giant's latest tablet flagship, the iPad Air 2. Released alongside the iPad Mini 3, the device came with a height of 9.4 inches, width of 6.6 inches and thickness of 0.24 inch (240 mm x 169.5 mm x 6.1 mm). It weighed 0.96 pound (437 g).
It would be difficult to speculate a tablet's weight based on a picture, but in terms of depth, we can see that the iPad Pro is 0.03 inch (0.9 mm) thicker than the iPad Air 2. But of course, this insight must be taken with a pinch of salt, given that Apple has not confirmed the truth behind the rumored iPad.
According to ValueWalk, the tablet market has significantly declined, and the iPad Pro could be Apple's "ticket" to resurrect the sluggish movement of tablet growth. Contrary to the stellar success of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, the iPads appeared to be trailing along a downslope.
The above outlet reported that Apple had 12.31 million iPads (and iPad Minis) sold in Q4 2014, which was 7% below the preceding quarter. In addition, the figure was said to be 13% lower than that of 2013. The source recorded last quarter's iPad sales as the lowest since Q2 2012.
Meanwhile, Know Your Mobile cited claims from Taiwanese website TechNews.Tw, which set the iPad Pro's launch in April 2015. If this bears truth, we have about three months to spend in waiting.
The source listed other rumored specs of the iPad Pro, which include 2GB of RAM, an "enhanced" version of the A8X chipset and 16 GB, 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB storage options.
In terms of the tablet's cost, TechRadar predicted that it will likely fall somewhere between the iPad Air and MacBook Air's prices.
