'Terminator 5 Genesis' 2015 Cast, Plot & News: T-800 Robot Gets New Sleek Design
Fans of the "Terminator" franchise have a lot to look forward to when the fifth installment titled "Terminator: Genisys" hits the big screen on July 1, 2015. The T-800 robot is reportedly getting an upgrade and will showcase a sleeker and more modern style.
USA Today published the images of the new T-800. You can see the photos of the robot's upgraded design on the news outlet's website.
According to a report from Cinema Blend, the high-tech robot "still have those signature, glowing-red eyes, it looks like they've taken a bit of a minimalist approach when it comes to the body of the T-800." The new design also comes close to the appearance of the T-800 in the original films.
"Genisys" is the start of a trilogy and will bring in an alternate timeline different from James Cameron's early interpretations of the "Terminator" franchise. According to USA Today, the upcoming film will be more modernized by "taking advantage of our dependence on technology."
"If you look down at every single person who's on a smartphone, those technologies could actually be used to hand over the keys to Skynet to be able to drive your life," producer David Ellison said, as quoted by USA Today.
"For this one, we tried to couch the threat of the machine in things that we're more a part of and afraid of," "Genisys" director Alan Taylor said, the news outlet reported.
Ellison also revealed, during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, that the film will adapt to the public's cultural anxieties, particularly in relation with technology.
"Skynet no longer has to break down our front door because we line up in front of Apple stores to invite it in," he said, as quoted by the news outlet. "We're constantly giving away our privacy."
As for the film's special effects, Ellison and Taylor revealed to Entertainment Weekly that they created a "synthespian," or synthetic thespian, which will use "a body double plus scans of Schwarzenegger's face from the first film merged with what his face looks like now." The result? A CG head of 1984's Terminator. The filmmakers hope that this new technology, along with a man/machine hybrid villain, will be the visual game changers in the movie.
"Part of the challenge is to dazzle people with something they haven't seen before," Taylor told Entertainment Weekly. "There are elements in our main villain that are straining the capacities of our brilliant visual-effects people. So that's a good sign."
The film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Clarke, Jai Courtney, Matt Smith, Michael Gladis, Emilia Clarke, Dayo Okeniyi, Sandrine Holt, J.K. Simmons, and Byung-hun Lee. The film was written by Patrick Lussier and Laeta Kalorgridis, Coming Soon reported.
