HTC One M9 Release Date: Specs, Features & Price vs HTC One M8

By Staff| Jan 06, 2015

Reports surrounding the successor to HTC's One M8 are everywhere, given the fact that it's one of the most anticipated smartphones rumored to launch at this year's CES. With the event kicking off in a matter of hours, we've decided to curate One M9's (aka "Hima") rumors and see how they compare with predecessor M8's.

Release Date

Before we get into the juicy details of specs, note that the HTC One M9 was not only tipped for a CES launch. Alternatively, the device was hinted to arrive in the next Mobile World Congress, Digital Trends noted. The event happens on Mar. 2 - 5, meaning, we could still be months away from having our first impression of Hima.

Display

Screen size rumors about One M9 varied widely. According to Pocket-lint, early talks suggested a 5.2-inch Quad HD display, which comes at a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels (564 ppi). This spec arrangement coincided with 3g.co.uk's citation.

However, the Daily Mail took note of AnTuTu's information, which seemed to downgrade the earlier allegations. Apparently, the device was tipped to come with a 5-inch display instead, packing a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

The biggest rumored screen size is perhaps that which sets the device at 5.5 inches, a report cited by Digital Trends.

The current One M8 takes a 5-inch, full HD screen at 1080p. As you may have observed, most One M9 reports have been consistent in pointing out that it's actually bigger than its predecessor.

Camera

Trusted Reviews reported that One M9 could pack a 20.7 MP (with OIS support) main camera, along with a 13 MP front snapper.

On the other hand, One M8 housed an UltraPixel main camera that supported 1080p full HD video recording with HDR video. Its front snapper packed a resolution of 5 MP.

Processor & RAM

The HTC One M9 was said to pack a 64-bit, octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor, the Daily Mail wrote. Citing leaks, the outlet added that the device could pack 3 GB of RAM. Christian Today specified that the Snapdragon chip performs under a clock speed of 2 GHz.

Meanwhile, One M8 ran Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor, with 2 GB of RAM.

Operating System

Citing leaks, Christian Today noted that One M9 could ship with Android 5.0.1 Lollipop. Note that this is already an upgrade from the then-expected Android 5.0 Lollipop, previously cited by 3g.co.uk.

The latest One M8 ran Google's Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system, CNET wrote. TechRadar reported that it's set to receive Lollipop this month.

Price

Trusted Reviews set a £550 - £600 marker for the One M9, which, converting via Google Finance, gives us a starting point of $835 (as of press time).
