Kanye West Sings About His Late Mother In New Song 'Only One' Featuring Paul McCartney [Listen and Download]
Kanye West has just released a new song titled "Only One," and it features a surprise collaboration with no other than Paul McCartney.
The bittersweet track is written from the perspective of West's late mother Donda West, who succumbed from surgery complications back in 2007. Accompanied by "jazzy chords and a tender organ solo from McCartney, Donda West movingly tells her son to 'tell Nori about me,' referring to West's daughter North," The Guardian reports.

West sings: "Remember how I'd say one day/You'll be the man you always knew you would be. And if you knew how proud I was/You'd never shed a tear/Have a fear/No you wouldn't do that." The rapper also stated that his name "Kanye" means "Only one," according to Rolling Stone.
"My mom was singing to me, and through me to my daughter," West stated, as quoted by Rolling Stone. North, his daughter with TV personality and reality star Kim Kardashian, was born in 2013.
"The surprise track appears to be more jumping-off point for the two icons than random one-off," Rolling Stone noted. "Only One" is the first "publicly available recording from what has become a prolific musical collaboration between these two legendary artists," according to West's spokesperson. The 37-year-old musician also realized back then that the lyrics of the song didn't come from him, but from his deceased mother.
"The process of artistic creation is one that does not involve thinking, but often channeling. And he understood in that moment that his late mother, Dr. Donda West, who was also his mentor, confidante, and best friend, had spoken through him that day," West's spokesperson stated, as quoted by the news outlet.
McCartney and West have worked on the song earlier in 2014 in Los Angeles. During the brainstorming session, McCartney was on the keyboard while the rapper was singing in a "stream-of-consciousness riff," the news outlet noted.
This wasn't the first time that McCartney collaborated with another artist. According to The Guardian, the singer also sang duets with Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Tony Bennett, Lulu, and George Michael. He also recently released the track "Hope for the Future," which was the soundtrack of the video game "Destiny."
McCartney also expressed admiration for West in the past. Back in 2013, when asked about the albums he recently purchased, he answered, "The last albums I bought were by Kanye West, the National, the Civil Wars and Jay Z," Rolling Stone reports.
According to The Guardian, there is a possibility that West and McCartney will once again collaborate on another song.
