Call of Duty Ghosts News: Top-Selling Game on PS4 After Release Date [Trailer]
The PlayStation 4 has enjoyed quite the successful launch. The console was able to surpass 1 million in sales just 24 hours after it was released on Nov. 15. And while there's a wide variety of games on the console, the winner of the launch day sales wars is clear: the latest edition of the legendary Call of Duty franchise.
According to IGN, the latest Call of Duty game, Call of Duty: Ghosts, is the best-selling game so far on the PlayStation 4, and the best-selling game of the console's launch. The game is the top-seller for the console for Best Buy, GameStop, Target and Wal-Mart. However, the dominance of the game does not stop there. Not only is Call of Duty: Ghosts the best-selling PlayStation 4 game, it's widely expected to be the best-selling Xbox One game; it's the number one pre-ordered game for the unreleased console in North America. Despite some mediocre scores from critics, the game has a solid but not spectacular Metacritic score of 78, this means the game is positioned to be the best-selling next-gen game thus far.
While the game has already established itself as the top dog of the next-gen heap, the game can further its dominance when the next-gen consoles begin to launch in other regions. For example, the game will be a launch title for the PlayStation 4 when the console launches in Europe, New Zealand and Australia Nov. 29, and judging from the past success of the game, Call of Duty: Ghosts could very well repeat as the best-selling game in those regions.
CEO of Activision Publishing Co Eric Hirschberg gave his two cents about the success of Call of Duty: Ghosts on the new consoles:
"We couldn't be more excited about the consumer response as we look forward to this Friday's release of Xbox One."
Call of Duty: Ghosts was originally launched on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on Nov. 5. EA is offering users who wanted the game on the current consoles the ability to upgrade the game to the next-gen version for just $9.99 when they buy their new console.
