iPhone 6S Release Date, Specs, Features & Price: vs iPhone 6

By Staff| Dec 22, 2014

Speculations about the rumored successor to 2014's iPhone 6 (and 6 Plus), dubbed iPhone 6S, continue to pop here and there. Since the Cupertino giant hasn't confirmed the birth of this -s version of the iPhone, a numerical jump, iPhone 7, so to speak, remains to be a possible sequel.

This time, we've curated the buzz surrounding the iPhone 6S to see how it fares with its parent flagship. Note that these are all allegations, but it would still be interesting to see whether or not these things materialize in the future. After all, it's the next iPhone we're talking about here!

Release Date

As we have previously reported, the iPhone 6S is expected to launch by Spring 2015. The season begins in March, so we might see the device Q2 and beyond next year.

Design

Externally speaking, the iPhone 6S would appear similar to the current models, said the Telegraph. The outlet is convinced that all upgrades manifest internally. If this bears truth, we can expect the metal architecture and "premium" feel the iPhones have traditionally established.

At present, the iPhone 6 boasts of possessing the thinnest display of the series. It's predominantly made of anodized aluminum, stainless steel and glass. There are no distinct edges and gaps within the handset.

Display

MacRumors cited talks claiming that Apple might release a 4-inch iPhone in 2015. Of course, this is a straight possibility for the iPhone 6S, but it could also refer to the iPhone 7. If the speculation turns true, the company is making a retrogressive move with its iPhone line, given the fact that its first entry in the phablet arena, the iPhone 6 Plus, is already in existence.

The iPhone 6 is powered by Retina Display, measuring 4.7 inches. It packs a resolution of 1334 x 750 pixels, yielding 326 ppi. Naturally, it's likely that the iPhone 6S comes with Retina -- perhaps under the sapphire display we've noted earlier.

Photography, Processor & Operating System

The iPhone 6S has been suggested to pack a DSLR-ish camera, a spec hinted by John Gruber over The Talk Show (Daring Fireball). Digital Trends noted that Apple and rival Samsung could join hands for the device's A9 processor. Finally, the iOS 9 has been cited by Trusted Reviews as a possible runner of the handset.

It seems Apple is not bothered with the megapixel race. The company packs an 8 MP iSight camera for the iPhone 6. It includes Focus Pixels, improved face detection, and exposure control. The device runs an A8 chip built on 64-bit architecture. It's powered by iOS 8.

Price

Interestingly, the iPhone 6S may fall at a cheaper price, at least according to International Business Times. The outlet went on to reveal that the same case applies for the iPhone 7. The price drop could result from a new trade pact between China and the United States, which reduces up to 30% of manufacturing costs for huge tech companies like Apple, HP and Microsoft.

Prospective buyers can own the iPhone 6 starting at $199, wrote the Apple Store. Select your carrier and purchase the device here.
