Nike Release Dates 2014: Kyrie 1 'Dream' Drops Dec. 23 - Photos, Price & Where to Buy
Nike's Kyrie 1 "Dream," about to be launched on December 23, comes once more from the company's 42 years of signature shoe brands. The Kyrie 1 is modeled after athlete Kyrie Irving's basketball prowess, and, as Uproxx puts it, the shoe brand gives special attention to "performance, aesthetics, and affordability."
Sold at $110, the Kyrie 1 is available in colors such as black/bright and crimson-anthracite-white. It was meticulously designed and tested by Leo Chang's team, with a goal to match Irving's "tremendous speed and quickness," according to Nike. The shoe aims to be light, bold, and "responsive with the best traction Nike Basketball could develop for Irving's prolific first step," featuring bright colors and abstract images in its design, Nike adds.
The Kyrie 1 also displays geometric, colorful objects that are in line with Irving's life journey, particularly on the basketball star's experience of "waking up on Christmas morning and lacing up for a game professionally" while the shoe's design includes stars from the Australian flag, a skateboard, the athlete's jersey number, and a brass musical instrument, Nike describes.
Nike adds that the Kyrie 1 was made to deliver three primary advantages, namely: "pinpoint responsiveness with Nike Zoom Air cushioning in the forefoot, dynamic grip with a 360-degree dynamic traction pattern wrapping the shoe's sidewalls, and ultra support and breathability with Hyperfuse construction for lockdown stability."
Kyrie joins Nike
When asked what he feels about joining Nike, Kyrie said that he is honored to be a part of the apparel company's signature shoe line.
"As a kid, imagining that I'd be in the Nike family with my own shoe was something that seemed almost unattainable," the athlete said, as quoted by WFNY. "Now that I've received the KYRIE 1 I'm honored to represent Nike and its next generation of players."
Watch the video below for an inside look on the Kyrie 1 'Dream' featuring Kyrie Irving. The athlete will join fellow basketball stars Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant in the Nike family.
The Kyrie 1 is also available exclusively on NIKEiD at a price of $155. According to Nike, it will come in unprecedented traction with custom and multiple colors with personalization options.
Before its official release on December 23, the Kyrie 1 was made available at Quicken Loans Arena during the Cleveland Cavaliers game on Friday, December 19. Fans of Kyrie was given the opportunity to purchase "Irving Nike posters with lucky sections receiving t-shirts, stencils and tattoos presumed to be in the reigning All-Star MVP's signature 'KI' logo," according to another report from WFNY.
